About Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh

Queen Margaret University (QMU) is an attractive campus university located to the east of Edinburgh. With the beach, countryside and shops all nearby, the campus is just six minutes by train from all the amenities of Edinburgh’s stunning city centre.

Courses designed for a satisfying career

QMU provides a range of professionally relevant courses, at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and offers a variety of learning and teaching methods to maximise the student experience: lectures, seminars, tutorials, group work, placements, study abroad, independent work, and hands-on projects with real clients.

The University is one of the leading providers of courses allied to medicine, and the professional accreditation, approval and registration provided by these courses allows the graduates to begin working immediately. Graduates are often employed in the UK’s National Health Service, as, for example, physiotherapists, podiatrists, and dieticians.

QMU’s range of business courses produce graduates who go on to very successful careers either running their own businesses or working in the marketing, retail, events, hospitality and tourism sectors. The University’s Business Innovation Zone provides support for student and graduate start-ups.

QMU is also well known for its courses in culture and the creative industries, eg. Psychology, Sociology, PR and Drama. From 2019, it will also be offering primary teaching courses.

Class sizes

The relatively small size of the University means that students can quickly get to know the staff and fellow students on their course, while also experiencing a range of teaching and learning opportunities aimed at enhancing the overall student experience. QMU students come from over 90 countries.

Teaching faculty

Students will be taught by academic staff with in-depth knowledge and experience of their subject area. The staff ensure that they are up to date with the latest knowledge, thinking and developments in their field and have strong links with industry and professional bodies.

With an innovative learning resource centre at its heart, the University’s campus features high-tech facilities and beautiful landscaped grounds.

The campus includes student residences, a students’ union, indoor sports facilities and all weather surfaces, a variety of catering outlets, a shop, and specialist facilities for various courses. The design takes full account of the needs, lifestyles and learning styles of today's students. There is also appropriate disabled access to residences and academic buildings.

Employment opportunities

QMU is in the top three in Scotland for employment of undergraduate leavers. According to HESA (July 2018) 2017, 97.1% % of those graduating from a full-time undergraduate degree course at QMU go on to employment or further training within six months of graduating, which demonstrates that the University’s graduates have the skills and knowledge that employers value.
