The University of Huddersfield is a contemporary university located in the north of England, in the UK. It is a public university, located on a site with a history of academic activity dating back to the 19th century.

Huddersfield is dedicated to providing fair access to education, and has organised a programme of scholarships and bursary awards to help subsidise the cost of study. There are merit-based and means-tested options available to eligible international students.
International undergraduate students can receive a non-repayable scholarship grant of up to GBP 12,000 (GBP 4,000 for every year) of their course, based on academic achievements. GBP 4,000 is awarded for an achievement of AAB at A-level (or equivalent), GBP 3,000 is awarded for ABB at A-level (or equivalent), and up to GBP 2,000 is awarded annually for meeting standard entry requirements. For most courses, students are considered automatically for these financial awards upon enrolment.
International postgraduate students can also receive a non-repayable scholarship grant of up to GBP 4,000 if they have the equivalent of a first-class degree (Hons) or GBP 3,000 for an upper second or equivalent.
Huddersfield is the most affordable student town/city in England and the 2nd affordable in the UK. Average rent cost in Huddersfield is GBP 340 a month, compared to the UK average of GBP 535.

The Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA) shows that the University of Huddersfield’s teaching staff are the best qualified in England across a range of measures. 94 percent of lecturers hold specific teaching qualifications, 96 percent of lecturers have higher education academic qualifications, the highest percentage in the country, and 77 percent of those hold doctorates (HESA, 2022).
Many of the university’s teaching staff are active practitioners in their academic fields, and this shows in the success of the university’s research programmes. It has climbed more than seventeen places since 2014 to rank within the top 50 institutions in the UK. Two-thirds of its research portfolio is world-leading, and it sits within the top 20 universities for increasing research power.

The latest and largest new building is the Daphne Steele Building, which features state-of-the-art equipment and facilities for the university's midwifery, nursing, occupational therapy, operating department practice, paramedic science, physiotherapy, podiatry and speech and language therapy courses.
The main Queensgate campus at the University of Huddersfield is a fully resourced student environment, providing everything students need to achieve both academic and personal success. The Queensgate campus hosts the Huddersfield Students' Union (HSU), which is a student-run organisation that represents the university community and is able to provide advice and guidance on a range of issues and challenges which students may face during their course. HSU also works closely with the university to co-ordinate over 100 student-organised clubs, societies and sports teams, as well as a radio station (Radio Hud), magazine and website (T’Hud).
Student Central is home to student shops and cafes, including Starbucks, the international kitchen, the Student Advice and Support Centre, the International Office and the lettings agency (HudLets) which helps students to find their ideal university accommodation. Whether it be academic concerns, organisational issues, or personal problems, the university is there to help at every step of the way. Huddersfield provides the highest level of support services to its student community, delivered by a large team of friendly and approachable support staff who work hard to inspire success and build an exceptional student experience. Specialised departments offer targeted support, and staff are able to refer students to further professional resources where necessary.

The University of Huddersfield prioritises campus safety, implementing numerous measures and policies to ensure a secure environment for all students and staff, where they can work and study in confidence. There are plenty of resources dedicated to supporting this including a campus security team, who operate out of the Security Hub, and a specialised security office in the Harold Wilson Building, which is open and staffed 24 hours a day, all year round.
This team offers various services, such as campus patrols, CCTV monitoring, building access control, handling lost property, and ensuring personal safety. Students feeling unsafe can seek advice at the Security Hub, which may include arranging a taxi for them.
Additionally, the Security Hub provides online safety information and manages the university ID card system, including the replacement of lost or stolen cards to maintain campus security.
