Scholarships & funding

Huddersfield is dedicated to providing fair access to education and has organised a programme of scholarships and bursary awards to help subsidise the cost of study. There is a range of merit-based options available to eligible international students.

International undergraduate students can receive a non-repayable scholarship grant of up to GBP 12,000 (GBP 4,000 for every year) of their course, based on academic achievements. GBP 4,000 is awarded for an achievement of AAB at A-level (or equivalent), and up to GBP 2,000 is awarded annually for meeting standard entry requirements. For most courses, students are considered automatically for these financial awards upon enrolment.

International postgraduate students can also receive a non-repayable scholarship grant of up to GBP 4,000 if they have the equivalent of a first-class degree (Hons) or GBP 2,000 for meeting standard entry requirements.

Huddersfield offers low cost of living, including being a top 10 UK location for affordable student rent (Student Crowd 2026). Average rent cost in Huddersfield is GBP 125 per week, compared to the UK average of GBP 203 per week, and the central London average of GBP 399 per week.

In the most recent Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF 2023), Huddersfield has been awarded the highest possible Gold rating, in all three categories: overall, student experience, and student outcomes.

Huddersfield is on a remarkable upward trajectory, placing first in the UK in the 2024 global Times Higher Education Young University Rankings after increasing its QS World Rankings over 200 places in recent years. The Huddersfield University Business School was named Business School of the Year at the 2023 Times Higher Education Awards, and QS have given Huddersfield Five Stars for International and overall. The university is ranked the number 1 mainstream university in the UK for the proportion of teaching staff with higher degrees and teaching qualifications - and top ten in England for staff holding doctorates. Many of the university’s teaching staff are active practitioners in their academic fields, and this shows in the success of the university’s research programmes. It has climbed more than seventeen places since 2014 to rank within the top 50 institutions in the UK. Huddersfield’s large award-winning campus is home to five academic schools: Applied Sciences, Arts and Humanities, Computing and Engineering, Human and Health Sciences and Business, Education and Law.

The campus has recently had financial investments of over GBP 198 million to build a range of new world-class facilities and buildings.

The latest development is The National Health Innovation Campus, which will be comprised of seven new buildings. The first two buildings, Daphne Steel and Emily Siddon, feature state-of-the-art equipment and facilities for the university's midwifery, nursing, occupational therapy, operating department practice, paramedic science, physiotherapy, podiatry and speech and language therapy courses.

Student safety

The University of Huddersfield prioritises campus safety, implementing numerous measures and policies to ensure a secure environment for all students and staff where they can work and study in confidence. There are plenty of resources dedicated to supporting this including a campus security team, who operate out of the security hub, which is open and staffed 24 hours a day, all year round, and an on-campus safer student officer.

This team offers various services, such as campus patrols, CCTV monitoring, building access control, handling lost property, and ensuring personal safety. Students feeling unsafe can seek advice at the security hub, which may include arranging a taxi for them.

Additionally, the security hub provides online safety information and manages the university ID card system, including the replacement of lost or stolen cards to maintain campus security.
