There are 12 scholarships available at University College Dublin.

MSc Merit Based Scholarships for International Students

Eligibility requirements

These scholarships are awarded to academically exceptional students who will be ambassadors for their course and the School during their studies and after graduation.

Scholarships are open to self-sponsored candidates who have been offered a place on a full time MSc Programme. Applicants must have completed the application process to the programme of their choice and fulfilled the necessary admissions requirements.

Please note that UCD Belfield programmes run in conjunction with UCD Smurfit School - MSc in Biotechnology and Business, MSc in Bio therapeutics and Business and MSc in International Law and Business - are not eligible for Scholarships.

GMAT: Scholarship winners will be selected on merit. To apply for a scholarship, candidates must have obtained a minimum score of 630 points in the GMAT test. In addition to the overall score, the verbal component score must at least be 30/51 and the quantitative score no lower than 40/60.

GRE: To apply for a scholarship, candidates can also submit a valid GRE. This will be used in conjunction with a first class honours degree (or equivalent) and, if applicable, the minimum score required in either the IELTS or TOEFL.

  • The scoring scale for the GRE is 130 – 170
  • The minimum GRE scores are as follows:
  • Minimum 158 out of 170 GRE Verbal Reasoning
  • Minimum 160 out of 170 GRE Quantitative Reasoning

Application details

In order to be eligible to apply for this scholarship, candidates must hold an offer of a place on an MSc programme in the Smurfit School.

Your offer may be a full or conditional offer (for example, if you are in the final year of your undergraduate degree and have not yet received your final degree result).

Candidates must complete the online application form in full (UCD Online Application) and attach their official GMAT or GRE Test Score Report to the application. Candidates must have achieved a GMAT test result of 630 or higher before submitting their scholarship application. Alternatively, candidates must have scored a minimum of 158 out of 170 GRE Verbal Reasoning and 160 out of 170 GRE Quantitative Reasoning. Test scores must be in date.

The deadline for submitting your Scholarship application is the 31st March 2020.

You must have therefore, received an offer of a place in the School before the 31st March 2020. in order to 9submit your scholarship application. Decisions will be made by the Schools Scholarship Committee on or before the 1st of May 2020.

In exceptional cases, we may offer some of these Scholarships in advance of May 2020.

University of Delhi Graduate Scholarship

Eligibility requirements

The University of Delhi graduate Scholarship aims to attract the highest calibre students from the University of Delhi to UCD Smurfit School. These scholarships will be awarded to academically exceptional students. They will act as ambassadors for UCD Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School during their studies and after graduation. These merit-based scholarships are open to all applicants who are graduates of the University of Delhi or who will graduate in the summer of 2020.

To be eligible, candidates must already hold a full or conditional accept status on the following listed MSc programmes only by 15th March 2019:

  • MSc Renewable Energy & Environmental Finance FT
  • MSc Marketing and Retail Innovation FT
  • MSc Aviation Finance FT
  • MSc Food Business Strategy FT
  • MSc Accounting and Finance FT
  • MSc Marketing Practice FT

Please note that no other UCD Smurfit nor UCD Belfield programmes run in conjunction with UCD Smurfit School - MSc in Biotechnology and Business, MSc in Biotherapeutics and Business and MSc in International Law and Business are eligible for these scholarships.

There is no separate application process for these scholarships. All successful applicants who are graduates of the University of Delhi are automatically considered.  So, all successful applicants who apply and hold a full or conditional accept status by 15th March 2019 is in consideration.

Global Excellence Scholarships

Eligibility requirements

Scholarships are only open to self-funding candidates who are classified as non-EU for tuition fee purposes.

Eligible programmes are limited to those that are undergraduate and graduate taught programmes, where the student must be based in Dublin and no part of the programme is awarded by another institution. All Clinical Programmes are ineligible for the Global Excellence Scholarship.

Students progressing from the UCD International Foundation Year (IFY) to a UCD programme are ineligible for the Global Excellence Scholarship.

Applicants to the Global Excellence Scholarship will have already obtained one of the following statuses on an application for an eligible programme:

  • Offer
  • Conditional Offer
  • Accept
  • Conditional Accept

Applications for the Global Excellence Scholarship should be submitted in accordance with the instructions given in the Global Excellence Scholarship Application document.

The Global Excellence Scholarship cannot be combined with any other tuition scholarship.

Scholarship Description

  • Global Excellence Scholarships aim to attract outstanding candidates to UCD programmes and to encourage early application.
  • Scholarship applications will be considered on academic merit paired with holistic review of their scholarship application.
  • The Global Excellence Scholarship is payable only toward the tuition fees of the successful candidate.
  • The scholarship is only available to students entering a new programme at UCD. Students already completing a programme will not be considered for the Global Excellence Scholarship for that programme.

Cormac Costelloe Dell Financial Services Scholarship

Eligibility requirements

UCD Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School is offering a Full-Time MSc applicant the chance to receive a scholarship to cover the full tuition fees for the MSc in Finance.

An applicant already holding an overall Hons 1.1 degree result (or international equivalent) or who achieves this same overall degree result in summer before the start of the programme.

Excellently written essay question answers in the course application as well as an excellent online Kira interview as part of the online application to the programme.

Application details

There is no separate application process for this one Scholarship. All course applications submitted before the deadline of 1st May 2020 will be considered for this scholarship.  Those successful applicants who hold a Full or Conditional Offer and who have accepted that offer for the full-time MSc Finance by 15 May 2020 are automatically considered.   Following that, The School will then select a small short list and have a winner chosen by the end of May 2020.

Regional Merit Based MBA Scholarships

Eligibility requirements

Cultural diversity is at the core of the UCD Smurfit community and to further promote this within the MBA, multiple regional merit based scholarships will be awarded to exceptional candidates who will be ambassadors for the UCD Smurfit MBA and the School during their studies and after graduation. These merit based scholarships generally cover 50% of the tuition fees for the MBA. In exceptional cases however, they can cover up to 100% of the tuition fees.

Our Regional Merit Based MBA scholarships are awarded to applicants from the following regions:

  • Asia and Australasia
  • Central and Eastern Europe
  • North, South and Central America
  • Western Europe
  • Middle East and Africa

Open to all successful international MBA applicants, achieving a minimum GMAT score of 600 or above. Please note that the GMAT deadline for Indian applicant is 1st March 2020, other regions is 1st June 2020.

Dual passport holders may apply (i.e. US/ Irish passport).

There is no separate application process for these scholarships. All successful applicants for the MBA or the Executive MBA are automatically considered. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. Scholarships may be awarded prior to the closing date to exceptional candidates. Early application is recommended.

NB As scholarships are limited and there is significant competition, applicants residing in Ireland may be required to attend an assessment centre as part of the scholarship review process.

Norman C. T. Liu Aviation Scholarship

Eligibility requirements

An undergraduate degree result equivalent to an Irish first class honours (Hons 1.1).

A strong curriculum vitae / resume.

Excellently written essay question answers in the course application. There are two at 300 words each.

If applicable to you when applying, you must meet our minimum English Language Requirement but with an overall IELTS of minimum 7.0, TOEFL 100 / 120 (or equivalent scores in a test we recognize).

MSc Marketing and Retail Innovation Scholarships

Eligibility requirements

UCD Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School is offering Irish, other EU and non-EU applicants for the MSc Marketing and Retail Innovation 2019/20 Full-Time, the chance to win a scholarship to cover 50% of the tuition fees for this course. All course applications submitted before the deadline of 15th June 2019 will be considered for this scholarship. Following assessment of the course applications and those holding Full, Unconditional Offers by 25th June 2019, The School will then select the winners at the end of June 2019.

An undergraduate degree result of an Irish first class honours (Hons 1.1) or an Irish second class honours, grade one (Hons 2.1) or international equivalent.

Global Scholarship

Eligibility requirements

1) Global Scholarships are applied in line with UCD Global procedures, with the aim to attract:

  • Academically strong students;
  • Students from underrepresented regions;
  • Students to academic programmes with a greater capacity for international students.

2) The Global Scholarship is payable only toward the tuition fees of successful applicants.

Preconditions

3) Successful candidates must be resident in a region outside the EU, EEA and Switzerland at the time of application.

4) Scholarships are only open to self-funding candidates who are classified as non-EU for tuition fee purposes.

5) Eligible programmes are limited to undergraduate and graduate taught programmes, where the student must be based in Dublin and no part of the programme is awarded by another institution.

All online, part-time, UCD Smurfit Graduate Business School MSc and MBA, and clinical programmes are ineligible for the Global Scholarship. Oversubscribed programmes may also be ineligible for the Global Scholarship.

6) The Global Scholarship is automatically applied by UCD Global at the time that an applicant’s programme application is evaluated. UCD Global determines the eligibility and amount of scholarship based on:

a) The applicant’s displayed academic strength in the relevant programme application.

Applicants should not have an IPS of lower than 400 (for undergraduate programmes) or an equivalent classification of lower than 2.1 (for graduate taught programmes);

b) The applicant’s region;

c) The programme’s capacity for international cohorts.

7) Only the prerequisite prior academic experience will be considered when determining the eligibility and amount of a Global Scholarship. Awards or experience in prior non-prerequisite degrees or programmes will not be considered.

Eligibility requirements

Scholarship Description

1. The Quinn School of Business VPI Discretionary Scholarship is funded by the UCD College of Business and aims to attract excellent candidates to full-time undergraduate business degree programmes and to encourage early application.

2. Candidates will be considered on merit paired with holistic review of their programme application.

3. The Scholarship is payable only toward the tuition fees of the successful candidate.

Preconditions

4. Successful candidates must be self-funding, citizens and current residents of a Non-EU country and classified as Non-EU for application and for tuition fee purposes.

5. Eligible programmes are limited to those that are full-time undergraduate taught programmes, where the student must be based in Dublin and no part of the programme is awarded by another institution. A full list of eligible programmes is provided in Eligible Programmes.

6. Candidates for the Quinn School of Business VPI Discretionary Scholarship will be informed of their eligibility for the scholarship at the time of offer and all queries should be directed to the relevant Regional Admissions Team.

7. This Scholarship cannot be combined with any other tuition scholarship. If the student already has another UCD scholarship eg Global Scholarship and is subsequently awarded the Quinn School of Business VPI Discretionary Scholarship, only the higher amount will apply. The student cannot hold two different awards.

GMAT MBA Scholarships

Eligibility requirements

The MBA GMAT Scholarships will be awarded to academically exceptional students who will be ambassadors for the UCD Smurfit MBA and the School during their studies and after graduation. These merit based scholarships cover up to the full tuition fees for either the MBA or Executive MBA. GMAT score 700 or above required.

Open to all successful MBA and Executive MBA applicants scoring 700 or above on the GMAT and cover full tuition fees.

Deadline is 1 March 2020 for full time and 1 June 2020 for EMBA.  Please note for EMBA we can offer in advance of this.

UCD Alumni Tuition Reduction

Eligibility requirements

UCD alumni can avail of a 5% tuition reduction at UCD Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School for Masters programmes commencing in the academic year 2020/2021 onwards. The 5% tuition discount is available to all UCD alumni who have completed a full-time degree.

UCD alumni who have completed a full-time degree programme are eligible for consideration.

All UCD alumni who have completed a full-time degree and have been accepted to a UCD Smurfit School Masters programme will receive the 5% tuition reduction in semester 1 post confirmation of registration. T's and C's apply.
