Recipients must be full-fee-paying international students. Applicants may not be:
a. citizens of New Zealand or Australia;
b. Permanent Residents of Australia; or
c. holders of New Zealand residence class visas.
They must have completed, or be completing, a University Entrance qualification or equivalent, and have studied at secondary level in New Zealand in the year of application (or in the previous year if they are on a gap year). Applicants must have applied for admission to the University by 15 August. The scholarship is not tenable by students who have completed a programme at the UC International College (UCIC) or who have already undertaken partial study in an undergraduate degree programme at any other New Zealand tertiary institution.

UC Product Design Scholarship

This scholarship recognises and supports creative and academically strong students entering their first year of the Bachelor of Product Design (BProdDesign) degree programme at the University of Canterbury. Applicants must have completed, or be completing, a university entrance qualification, and must have studied at secondary level in New Zealand in the year of application (or, in the case of a gap year, in the year immediately prior). International students who meet these requirements are eligible to apply.

Category A scholarships are tenable during full-time study in a programme at the University for an undergraduate degree, in a recipient's first year of enrolment in a degree programme. Candidates for Category A scholarships must:
a. have completed or be completing a university entrance qualification; and
b. have been studying at secondary level in the year of application (or, in the case of a gap year, in the year immediately prior).

Category B scholarships are tenable during full-time study at the University in:
a. the final year of a programme for an Honours degree; or
b. any year of a programme for a postgraduate degree or a postgraduate diploma.

Helen Macmillan Brown Bursaries

Applicants must be female. UC Mathematics and Statistics High Achievers Award

Eligibility requirements

Applicants must have completed, or be completing, a university entrance qualification and have studied at secondary level in New Zealand in the year of application (or, in the case of a gap year, in the year immediately prior), 3 either (1) in New Zealand, or (2) overseas at Te Aho o Te Kura. International students who meet these requirements are eligible to apply.

Full-time enrolment in a programme for a BA or BSc degree at the University with:

• a major in Data Science and an enrolment in MATH 102 and STAT101; or

• a major in Financial Engineering and an enrolment in MATH 103 and STAT 101; or

• a major in Mathematics and an enrolment in MATH 103; or

• a major in Statistics and an enrolment in STAT 101.

Recipients who have completed MATH 199 are exempt from enrolling in MATH 102 or MATH 103.

Geographical Society (Canterbury Branch) Research Grant

This grant is used to assist candidates for a Masters degree in Geography who are likely to incur heavy personal expenses in research for their theses. The grant may be awarded annually by the Council to a student or students on the recommendation of a committee comprising two academic staff members of the Department of Geography (one of whom shall be the Head of the Department) and two members of the committee of the Canterbury Branch of the Geographical Society (one of whom shall be the Chairman of the Branch).

Edward and Isabel Kidson Scholarship

The object of each scholarship is to enable a graduate of a university of New Zealand, who is of good character and who has shown an ability in physics or a combination of physics and mathematics, to undertake further advanced study or research whether in New Zealand or elsewhere, in Meteorology; or, should there be at any time or times no suitable candidate for an award of the scholarship for that purpose, then to undertake further advanced study or research in some other branch of science whether in New Zealand or elsewhere. To assist with doctoral research in Physics and/or Mathematics (preferably Meteorology) in NZ or overseas.

UC Master's Scholarship for Students with Disabilities

Applicants must have a disability that significantly impairs ability to study. They must submit evidence regarding the degree of impairment. The scholarship is tenable by full-time and part-time students enrolled in a programme for a master's degree at the University of Canterbury. Applicants may be either intending to enrol in a programme for a master's degree at the University or already enrolled in such a programme. This scholarship supports students of high academic achievement who have a significant disability, for study towards a master's degree at the University of Canterbury.

F A Hayek Scholarship in Economics or Political Science

Eligibility requirements

This scholarship supports students toward study for an honours or master's degree in the Economics or Political Science at the University. The scholarship is tenable by students enrolled in a programme for a master's or an honours degree in Economics or Political Science at the University with a course weighting in the range 0.75-1.50 EFTS. Such a programme must include a research component of at least 30 points. The scholarship is tenable in either part one or part two of a two-year master's degree programme. It is also tenable for 180-point, one-year master's degrees offered by the Department of Political Science or the Department of Economics and Finance.

Frank and Doris Bateson Memorial Graduate Scholarship

Lyttelton Port Company Directors' UC Scholarship

Eligibility requirements

Applicants must have a parent who, on the application closing date in the year of application, is employed, full-time or part-time, by the LPC and has been so for not less than 12 months.

Selection criteria: In making the recommendation, the selection committee considers: a. potential to succeed in the applicant’s chosen programme of study; and b. potential impact of the applicant’s financial circumstances on ability to succeed at university. Preference is given to applicants who will be enrolling in undergraduate study for the first time. If, in any year, there is no candidate of sufficient merit, no scholarship is awarded.

Recipients must be full-fee-paying international students. Applicants may not be:

Applicants must be completing, or have completed on or after 1 January of the year before the year of application, through an overseas institution or at the UC International College (UCIC), a university entrance-level qualification that permits entry into a University of Canterbury undergraduate degree programme. Those studying at secondary level in New Zealand are not eligible. Applicants, by the closing date for the round in which they are applying (15 April or 31 October), must have applied for admission to the University.

Owen Browning Scholarships in Forestry

Eligibility requirements

The scholarships shall be open to students who have been admitted or who are eligible for admission to postgraduate studies in Forestry at the University of Canterbury. A scholarship shall be tenable initially for one year in the case of a scholar studying for the MForSc degree, for one year in the case of a scholar studying for the MSc degree in Environmental Science (who is wholly supervised by the School of Forestry), and for two years in the case of a scholar studying for the PhD degree in Forestry or Forestry Engineering.

T W Adams Scholarship in Forestry

The scholarships shall be open to any candidate accepted for enrolment in MForSc or PhD. Applicants for scholarships can be of any nationality. A scholarship shall be tenable initially for one year in the case of a scholar studying for the MForSc degree and for two years in the case of a scholar studying for the Ph.D. degree. In either case a scholarship may be extended for a further year, on the recommendation of the Academic Board.

Ngau Boon Keat Postgraduate Scholarship in Mechanical Engineering

This scholarship supports postgraduate students in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Canterbury. The scholarship is tenable by full-time students enrolled in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University in a programme for a Master of Engineering degree, a Master of Engineering Studies degree, or a doctoral degree. In the case of master’s students the scholarship is tenable for up to 120 points of enrolment. In the case of doctoral students the scholarship is tenable for up to 360 points of enrolment. Mercer Memorial Scholarship

The scholarship is tenable by a student who has qualified for an undergraduate degree, who is enrolled at the University in a programme of study that involves research on a topic related to aviation that has been approved by the Head (or nominee) of the department in which the research would be based. Suitable topics for the research include, but are not limited to:
a. computational or experimental fluid mechanics;
b. high performance materials or structures; 
c. aircraft economics, operation, control, or communication systems.

UC College of Engineering Mathematics and Statistics STAR Scholarship

Applicants must be enrolled in the STAR course offered by the School of Mathematics and Statistics at the University (MATH 199). They may not have been enrolled, in the year of application or in any previous year, in a programme for a degree. The scholarship is tenable during full-time enrolment in a degree programme at the University that includes at least 60 points of taught courses per academic year towards a major in Applied Data Science, Computational and Applied Mathematical Sciences, Data Science, Financial Engineering, Mathematics, or Statistics.

Dennis William Moore Scholarship

Eligibility requirements

The scholarship shall be awarded from time to time from the Dennis William Moore Fund and is tenable for a thesis student in astronomy who has been or will be undertaking observational work at Mt John as part of his/her thesis work.

The tenure shall be one year for a Masters student and up to three years for a student enrolled in a PhD.
