Holland Scholarship

Eligibility requirements

To qualify for the Holland Scholarship University of Groningen:

  • You do not hold the nationality of one of the EEA countries;
  • You are going to study in the Netherlands;
  • You do not have a degree from an educational institution in the Netherlands;
  • You have excellent grades during your bachelor/undergraduate studies;
  • You meet the specific requirements of the University of Groningen;
  • You have a letter from the University of Groningen with an admission offer for one of the programmes mentioned in this list.
  • Write a motivation letter in which you make clear why you are the right candidate for the Holland Scholarship University of Groningen.

Value details

University of Groningen Talent Grant: Faculty of Arts (MA)

Eligibility requirements

Non-EU/EEA students from Brazil, China, Indonesia, Korea, Mexico, Russia who have been admitted to one of the Master’s programmes or the Faculty of Arts are invited to apply.

University of Groningen - Faculty of Arts – Talent Grants will not be awarded to applicants who have already obtained a University of Groningen Master’s degree or participating in another scholarschip programme which covers tuition fee and/or living costs (e.g. Erasmus+ / EMA2 /NFP/Erik Bleumink Fund).

Available positions: 2 grants per country ( Brazil, China, Indonesia, Korea, Mexico, Russia) available each year.

Application details

Students who would like to qualify for a Talent Grant should address the Netherlands Educational Support Offices (Neso) in their country. A selection committee will review the applications. Students are selected on the basis of (excellent) academic merit, result of English language test, extracurricular activities. Students will be notified as soon as possible about if they are awarded a grant.

Value details

The grant values 50% of the annual tuition fee to be paid in monthly instalments as a contribution in living costs.

University of Groningen Talent Grant: Research Master Behavioural and Social Sciences

Eligibility requirements

Candidates who have been admitted to the Research Master programme Behavioural and Social Sciences can be awarded a scholarship when they are not able to self-finance in full.

Candidates can apply for this grant by sending a letter of motivation in which they indicate that they are in need of a grant and would like to be considered for the UGTG: Research Master Behavioural and Social Sciences.

€ 5000 in the first year, and another € 5000 in the second year upon satisfactory completion of the first year.

Molecular Medicine and Innovative Treatment – Graduate School of Medical Sciences Scholarship

Eligibility requirements

Young biomedical research talent from non-EU countries in pursuit of an academic career at a top-100 University (THES/Shanghai). In applying for MPDI you will automatically compete for one of the available scholarships. Your letter of motivation should make explicit reference to why you believe you are the excellent candidate to receive this highly competitive scholarship.

Marie Curie - Sklodowska Fellowships

Eligibility requirements

The fellowships are specifically for early stage researchers who have obtained a degree that gives them access to doctoral studies. They should normally be undertaking a doctoral degree in History or related fields; they may, however, be actively engaged in a research project without being registered for a doctorate. These fellowships are not open to post doctoral researchers.

Eric Bleumink Fund

Eligibility requirements

Candidates for the Eric Bleumink Fund should:

  • Have obtained conditional admission to the program of choice
  • Have excellent academic performance, preferably to be confirmed by letters of recommendation
  • Have excellent grades during their bachelor/undergraduate studies;
  • Have excellent English language proficiency, in accordance with the admission requirements of the program of choice
  • Be available for the whole period of the programme and be able to take part in the entire programme
  • Be in good health, so that health insurance in the Hold the nationality of a country appearing in Appendix 1.
  • Have no other means of financing the study in question

Deadline: It is not possible to actively apply for an Eric Bleumink Fund Scholarship. Suitable candidates will be informed about a nomination.

The University of Groningen Admission Office, in consultation with the Admission Boards of its faculties, will determine which applicants will be nominated for an Eric Bleumink Fund scholarship.

Only applicants who have received a provisional or unconditional admission offer for a master programme before February can thus be considered. In order to allow for enough time to process the application to a master programme by the Admission Office, such a master application should be completed by the applicant before 1st of December.

Value details

The grant covers tuition fee, costs of international travel, subsistence, books, and health insurance. Please note that a considerable number of students apply for this scholarship each year, whereas the University can issue only a limited number of grants.

University of Groningen Talent Grant: Educational Sciences (MSc)

Eligibility requirements

Candidates who have been admitted to the MSc Educational Sciences can be awarded a grant when they are not able to self-finance in full and are not eligible for other (full) funding.

Talent Grants One Year Master's programme Theology and Religious Studies

Eligibility requirements

The Talent Grant is financed by the Faculty of Theology and Religious Studies. The scholarship is aimed at international students from OUTSIDE the European Economic Area (EEA) who want to do their Master’s in Theology and Religious Studies. The EEA consists of the EU countries and Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway.

Students from countries outside the EU/EEA who have been admitted to one of the tracks of the Master's programme in Theology & Religious Studies:

  • MA Religion and Pluralism: Ancient & Modern;
  • MA Religion, Conflict and Globalization;
  • MA Religion and Cultural Heritage;
  • MA Religion, Health and Wellbeing.

Candidates should:

  • Hold a non-EU/EEA passport and will not be eligible for support under the Dutch system of study grants and loans (" Studiefinanciering ")
  • Have obtained conditional admission to one of the three MA tracks in Theology and Religious Studies;
  • H ave excellent academic performance and grades during their bachelor/ undergraduate studies;
  • Not have already obtained a master’s degree from an educational institution in the Netherlands;
  • Have excellent English language proficiency, in accordance with the admission requirements of the program;
  • Be available for the whole period of the programme and be able to take part in the entire programme;
  • Confirm in writing their agreement with the of the grant when awarded with the Talent Grant.
