Graduate Assistantship

Eligibility requirements

The Department of Architecture offers Teaching Assistantship (TA) positions to qualified students enrolled in the Master of Architecture Program. The graduate assistants will work with full-time faculty as teaching assistants in the Department of Architecture’s undergraduate courses or as a student support assistant in the Department Woodshop and/or fabrication labs.

Students entering the first or second year of the Master of Architecture program at the University of Hartford are eligible to apply for the Teaching Assistantship. Numerous assistantships will be awarded per academic semester based on the needs of the Department. Graduate Assistants need to maintain a 3.0 GPA to retain their assistantship. 

Application details

Those applying for the Assistantship must submit narrative addressing how they are deserving of the position. The narrative should be clear and concise and of 300-400 words in length. The application should be a PDF and submitted to Seth Holmes, Graduate Program Director. The deadline for application submission is the first Monday in July (fall semester) or the first Monday in January (Spring semester). Applications will be reviewed by the Master of Architecture Program Leadership Team.

Value details

The Teaching Assistantships will be compensated between USD $750 - USD $1,500 per semester based on the demands of the position.

The Hartt School Assistantships – Undergraduate (Scholarship and Financial Aid)

Eligibility requirements

  • Performing Arts Scholarships range up to full tuition.
  • Only full-time undergraduate students entering in the fall semester are considered.
  • Awards are not reviewed for increases in subsequent years.
  • Need-based grant funding is available through the University Of Hartford Office Of Financial Aid based upon the results of the Free Application for Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA filing deadline is February 15.
  • Students must maintain full-time undergraduate status, a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of a 2.75 overall or a 3.0 GPA in their major field(s) of study at The Hartt School. In addition, the student must maintain satisfactory academic progress as defined by the University of Hartford Undergraduate Bulletin. If the student fails to meet the renewal criteria, the scholarship will be rescinded and will not be reinstated.            

Application details

All applicants, regardless of program, are automatically considered for Hartt's Performing Arts Scholarships (PAS). These scholarships are awarded by the faculty and based on the student's audition (for performance applicants) or interview (all other majors). No separate application is necessary.

Tai Soo Kim Traveling Fellowship

Eligibility requirements

Students graduating with a Master of Architecture degree from the University of Hartford are eligible to apply for the Fellowship. Students are eligible only in the academic year in which they graduate, which closes in May. Only one award will be made per academic year.

Application details

Applications for the Traveling Fellowship are reviewed by a Department of Architecture faculty jury, which will vote for the winning graduate. The deadline for submission is March 1.

Master of Architecture Scholarship

Frederick J. Mahaffey Memorial Endowed Architecture Scholarship

Eligible applications include returning students, as well as incoming first year students who have been accepted, deposited, and are enrolled for the fall term. Applicants must demonstrate outstanding academic performance & leadership, and have a minimum 3.0 GPA (Grade Point Average).

Artistic Merit Talent Scholarship

The Hartford Art School (HAS) offers talent awards ranging up to full tuition to entering full-time students based on the quality of their portfolio review and academic achievement. Students are notified of these awards at the time of admission.

Scholarship Guidelines:

  • Students must maintain a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA.
  • These awards are renewable each academic year (up to an aggregate total of four years) upon the recommendation of the Dean of the Hartford Art School.
  • These scholarships may not be combined with any other non need-based scholarships or grants.

Hartt Performing Arts Scholarship

The Hartt School offers scholarships up to full tuition to entering full-time students based on the outcome of the audition process and academic achievement. Students will be notified about these awards at the time of admission.

Performing Arts Scholarship Guidelines:

  • Awards are made for one academic year and are renewable (up to an aggregate total of four years) based on an annual evaluation. Students accepted into a double major or five year program upon admission to the university may have the award renewed for up to an aggregate total of five years.
  • Students must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of either 2.75 in all of their University of Hartford course work or a cumulative GPA of 3.0 in their major field(s) of study at The Hartt School and quantitative academic progress.
  • These scholarships may not be combined with any other non need-based scholarships or grants.

The Hartt School Assistantships – Graduate (Scholarships, Assistantships, and Fellowships)

Engineering Graduate Scholarships and Assistantships

Eligibility requirements

Amounts of assistantship awards and required student work commitments may vary.

The engineering departments have a number of openings available for graduate assistantships. To qualify, you must be matriculated and carrying at least 9 credits per semester. Official Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores are also required, but only for the first semester of study.

Cumulative and most recent semester grade point averages will determine academic performance. Assistantships will be awarded on a semester basis. Consideration for continuation of an assistantship requires a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.6. Documentation of financial need will be required. Assistantships will be determined by the GASPC at the time are application review.

CTWAC Model United Nations Delegates

Eligibility requirements

Through partnership with the World Affairs Council, the University of Hartford will offer a scholarship to two participants in the World Affairs Council of Connecticut (CTWAC) Model United Nations program. The scholarship announcement for selected recipients will be revealed by April 1st.

  • Be admitted to a University of Hartford by applicable deadline.
  • Have a minimum of 1 year CTWAC Model UN experience confirmed by advisors.
  • Submit application including an essay to University of Hartford’s Financial Aid office by applicable deadline.
  • Submit participation confirmation and recommendation from advisor.

This scholarship is renewable to a maximum of 4 years, 8 semesters. To qualify for annual renewal, students must maintain satisfactory academic progress as defined by their school/college.

To apply for this scholarship, interested students must complete an application for admission to the University, as well as submit a Scholarship Application and Participation Confirmation/ Letter of Recommendation from advisor.

DECA Scholarship

Eligibility requirements

The University of Hartford will annually award five DECA Scholarships in the amount of $2,000 along with qualified University merit scholarships. This will be awarded to high school seniors who were members of DECA for at least 2 years during high school.

Along with DECA participation, to be considered for this scholarship opportunity students must be admitted into any program offered by the Barney School of Business.

To apply for this scholarship, interested students must complete an application for admission to the University, as well as submit a Scholarship Application and Advisor Recommendation Application. USD $35.00 admission application fee will be waived for any student applying for this scholarship.
