Eligibility requirements

Eligibility requirements for scholarships--Because we are able to offer only a limited number of scholarships, recipients are selected based upon their outstanding academic record and proven leadership from the top tier of applicants who have been admitted. Selection factors include:

  • Complete application for admission submitted by scholarship deadline of Jan. 15
  • Grades — the equivalent of a 3.5 GPA or higher on the 4.0 scale
  • Strong college preparatory academic curriculum, as indicated on transcripts and current schedule of courses in which the student is enrolled
  • High TOEFL, IELTS-Academic, or other standardized English proficiency test scores that fulfill minimum required for full time KU class enrollment
  • High SAT or ACT scores. Although SAT/ACT scores are not required for admission to all majors, they are required for freshmen to be considered for scholarships. Providing SAT/ACT scores also enables your academic advisor to place you in the proper KU courses. Transfer students who have completed 24 transferable credit hours at a U.S. institution may be exempt from SAT or ACT scores.
  • Co-Curricular Summary, which includes a description of all your out-of-class activities, involvement in student organizations, leadership, service, and awards. Choose three activities and explain why they have been especially meaningful for you.
  • An essay of no more than 500 words about (a) Your personal and academic goals and how you hope to achieve them at KU; OR (b) Your field of study and specialized interests within this field; OR (c) The unique perspectives you hope to gain in the U.S. and the ways, upon your return to your home country, you intend to use the skills, knowledge, and experience you gain here; OR (d) A topic of your choice. The essay must demonstrate writing and critical thinking skills
