Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this scholarship, you need to:

  • be a citizen of a country other than Australia and New Zealand and not a permanent resident of Australia;
  • have received an unconditional offer for an undergraduate course;
  • have achieved excellent final year school results, such as:
  • 4 A-grades in the GCE A Levels
  • overall 98% in an approved Foundation program
  • an International Baccalaureate (IB) score of 44; and
  • not have previously undertaken any tertiary studies (excluding extension studies completed as part of a year 12 program);

Selection criteria

Awarded on the basis of academic merit and allocated on a competitive basis subject to quotas by course and region.

Scholarships have been awarded to students from countries such as Mexico, Singapore, Bangladesh, China, Mauritius, Sweden, Malaysia, USA and India.

Value details

Up to AUD $56,000. Around 30 scholarships with a AUD $10,000 tuition fee remission in the first year of an undergraduate degree and around 10 scholarships with a 100% tuition fee remission for the normal full-time duration of an undergraduate degree

AG Whitlam International Undergraduate Merit Scholarship

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this scholarship, you need to:

  • be a citizen from one of the designated countries (Bangladesh, India, Sri Lanka and Vietnam)
  • have completed an approved Year 12 program or equivalent in a country other than Australia that meets the eligibility requirements for the Bachelor of Commerce
  • preference will be given to applicants who complete their studies in one of the designated counties
  • be made an unconditional offer for the Bachelor of Commerce
  • accept a place in the Bachelor of Commerce in the year it is offered

To be eligible for this scholarship, you need to:

Undergraduate applicants

  • have applied for or be the holder of a temporary protection (or asylum) visa.
  • have completed Australian Year Twelve or International Baccalaureate in Australia.
  • have applied for a University of Melbourne undergraduate course via VTAC for commencement in the year following completion of Australian Year Twelve or International Baccalaureate.
  • satisfy the course prerequisites and have achieved at least the minimum ATAR score for the University of Melbourne course
  • not have undertaken any tertiary studies (excluding extension studies completed as part of a Year 12 program).

Graduate applicants

  • have applied for or be the holder of a temporary protection (or asylum) visa.
  • have applied for a University of Melbourne graduate degree by coursework
  • satisfy the course prerequisites and have achieved at least the minimum entry score for the University of Melbourne course

Selection criteria

Eligible candidates are selected based on academic merit. Where there are more candidates than scholarships available or more than one candidate with a preference for the same degree course, the scholarships are awarded to the student with the highest entry score.

To be eligible for this scholarship, you need to:

  • be a refugee from Sudan, South Sudan or Somalia, or have a parent who is a refugee from Sudan, South Sudan or Somalia
  • be a domestic or international student completing an Australian Year 12 program or International Baccalaureate Diploma in Australia in 2018
  • have applied for the Bachelor of Arts at the University of Melbourne via VTAC for 2019 entry for commencement in the year following Year 12

Selection criteria

Selection is based on financial need demonstrated through an Access Melbourne application and documentation provided through the Faculty of Arts application form.

Students who do not apply through Access Melbourne must provide a statement outlining their financial need with their Faculty of Arts application form.

If there are more than two eligible applications, consideration will also given to applicants' academic records and their capacity to complete a three-year undergraduate degree at the University of Melbourne.

To be eligible for this scholarship, you need to:

  • have applied for and meet the entry requirements for a Master by research or Doctoral degree at the University of Melbourne, or
  • be currently enrolled in a research degree at the University of Melbourne

Selection criteria

Graduate Research Scholarships that provide a stipend as well as fee offset are awarded to international students based on academic merit. Eligible applicants are scored and ranked according to their academic achievement of their last completed degree and their research potential in their field of study. Factors such as completion of a degree at the same level of the research course for which the scholarship is sought, relevant professional experience, refereed publications, specialist medical qualifications or composition of original music may be taken into consideration.
