The GIIDAE International Scholarship offers a number of £1,000 - £3,000 scholarships in the form of a tuition reduction to any international fee-paying offer holder on any of the GIIDAE degrees. This scholarship is based on academic merit. Individuals will receive a certificate of recognition in addition to their funding as we recognise the increasing importance of international development and the expertise that is required within this sector in Japan and China. This scholarship is designed to support postgraduate opportunities for International students who wish to pursue a career in the development sector. Applicants from North America, Latin America and the Caribbean are eligible to apply.

Applications for all of the GIIDAE Scholarships will be assessed upon receipt of the individual applications, with a turnaround of approximately three weeks.

PhD Studentship in Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning in healthcare

Applicants should hold or expect to gain a Master’s degree or minimum of a 2:1 Bachelor Degree or equivalent in information management, health informatics, artificial Intelligence, data science, population health, health economics or other related areas. English requirement: minimum IELTS 6.5 or equivalent The studentship is open to international students. This PhD studentship will investigate how artificial intelligence (AI) methods can provide insight into health resource usage patterns, predict patient risk and facilitate healthcare management. Existing AI methods applied in Electronic Health Records (EHR) will be investigated, and specific AI-based approaches for healthcare management and patient risk both within and outside the hospital will be developed. This project is a partnership between the University of Reading and the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust (RBH), offered via the South East Network for Social Sciences (SeNSS) Doctoral Training Partnership, which is funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC). Several machine learning applications have already been successfully developed and come into operation for decision support in the hospital under the collaboration between Informatics Research Centre and Royal Berkshire Hospital.

All students starting on one of our Chemistry courses will receive an Entrance Package free of charge to help you in your first year of study. H. Knapman Scholarship

Through a generous donation we are able to fund three accommodation scholarships for students who will commence a full-time MSc course in one of our Science departments in September 2019. The scholarship will pay for 40 weeks of accommodation in one of the standard rooms in St Patrick’s Hall (students wishing to stay in Reading longer may source accommodation for the remainder of their studies at their own expense via our STAY at Reading service). The scholarship can be held in conjunction with another scholarship that pays full or partial tuition fees but the H. Knapman Scholarship cannot be offered to a student who already has a scholarship that provides a full stipend for living costs (e.g. Chevening, CSC, Felix). This scholarship if for students offered admission to an MSc course in one of the following Science departments: Biological Sciences Chemistry Computer Science Food and Nutritional Sciences Meteorology Pharmacy.

International PhD Bursaries in Pharmacy

Applicants will need to meet all of the following requirements: Be international (non-EU) candidates, paying full fees at International level (for PhDs based at Reading) Being awarded a studentship from an external body (applicants awarded a full or partial scholarship from the University of Reading are not eligible for this award), AND/OR being self-funded Being in possession of a formal PhD offer of admission from the University of Reading, including meeting the language requirements specified by the School upon entry Having achieved a First Class degree (or equivalent) in their first degree, or a Distinction (or equivalent) at master's level Having secured at least one additional marker of academic excellence (for example, research papers, awards etc.)

Chemistry Scholarships

Student requirements

Applicants must hold Reading's offer as firm (UF or CF) by 1 August of the year of entry. Chemistry Scholars will be expected to make a contribution to the life of the Chemistry Department, for example by helping with outreach activities or appearing in marketing material. The title of 'Chemistry Scholar' will apply for the duration of study, as long as performance is maintained at a minimum of a 2.1 level. Scholarships are paid in a series of instalments over the first year. Applicants who defer entry may not be eligible for scholarships.
