USC Indigenous Scholarship - Honours, Higher Degree by Research or Postgraduate

Eligibility requirements
- a commencing student (ie. existing students are not eligible)
- must have completed an undergraduate qualification in any discipline
- applicants will be considered ineligible if currently in receipt of another major USC or external scholarship (this does not include bursaries)
Selection criteria:
Applicants will be assessed based on:
- financial need
- demonstrated involvement within or for indigenous communities
- evidence of Aboriginality and/or Torres Strait Islander descent (unless criterion has previously been met)
Application details
Complete the application form, giving a brief statement of your involvement within or for indigenous communities and a short statement in regards to your career and personal goals.
Attach supporting documentation, as evidence of:
your current financial status (eg Australian Tax Office annual income printout for yourself and your supporting partner or supporting parent(s), or 2-3 current payslips; current copy of your Centrelink income statement and your health care card if you receive these entitlements), and
your undergraduate qualification (eg certified copy of transcript or certificate). This is not required for former USC students.
Value details
The scholarship is valued at AUD $4,000 for full-time study, to be paid in instalments over 2 semesters (pro-rata for part-time and sectional study). In addition, all course fees and the Student Services and Amenities fee for the relevant semester(s) will be waived.
National Centre for Timber Durability and Design Life Scholarship

Eligibility requirements
- International HDR student at USC
- Bachelors Degree with First Class Honours or equivalent previous study, relevant work experience, research publications, or other research experience
- Maintain satisfactory progress
- Not hold an equivalent qualification to the one currently being applied for
- Not have previously held a Commonwealth-funded postgraduate research scholarship unless it was terminated within six months of the current scholarship’s payments commencing
- Not be the recipient of an equivalent award, scholarship, or salary, providing a benefit greater than 75 percent of the RTP rate to undertake a HDR. Income unrelated to the course of study is not to be taken into account.

- Alignment of the proposed research to one of USC’s areas of research concentration
- Record of research publications
- Professional research experience
- Successful candidates will have the opportunity to work with researchers across Australia as well as Europe and North America to help craft the Centre. Opportunities also exist for short-term exchanges with other laboratories as needs to complete the research.

- Bachelors Degree with First Class Honours, Masters degree with thesis/dissertation/research or equivalent previous study, relevant work experience, research publications, or other research experience
- Not hold an equivalent qualification to the one currently being applied for
SELECTION CRITERIA:
- Academic qualifications - An honours or master’s degree in biological, physical or computational sciences is highly preferred; however, persons with a non-biology degree should have some basic understanding of genetics, evolution and molecular biology
- Record of research publications
- Professional research experience
