There are 20 scholarships available at The University of Sydney.

Asian Development Bank - Japan Scholarship Program (ADB-JSP)

Study level

Postgraduate

Eligibility requirements

Applicants must satisfy the following criteria:

  • be a citizen of the Asia Development Bank's developing member countries
  • have gained an unconditional offer for one of the approved postgrad courses listed above
  • have at least two years full-time professional work experience (acquired after a university degree) at the time of application
  • be aged 35 years or under at the time of application
  • not have already completed a master degree or previously studies overseas
  • be living and working in your home country.

Selection Criteria

The University will nominate eligible students to the ADB on the basis of following criteria:

  • Preference will be given to candidates with outstanding academic achievement.
  • Preference will be given to female candidates.
  • Preference will be given to applicants with a lower financial capacity.
  • Applicants with less than two years of work experience will not be selected.

Application details

To be considered for this scholarship, you must:

  • Lodge an application for admission to one of the above degrees direct to the University, using the 'apply now' option within Find a course to take you to the Sydney Student portal where you apply and upload supporting documents.
  • The University of Sydney application processing fee (APF) will be waived if you upload your ADB-JSP Information Sheet.
  • Your ADB-JSP application will only be considered, if you receive an unconditional offer to one of the above degree programs prior to the ADB-JSP application deadline. If your entry is conditional on English language proficiency or academic documentation, you must provide all required documents before the ADB-JSP scholarship deadline.
  • Upload evidence of two (2) years work experience and your latest income tax return (an official letter from an employer may be accepted in cases where an income tax return is not available).

No applicant will be allowed to apply for the ADB-JSP scholarship more than three times. Previously unsuccessful applicants must wait one year before re-applying.

Dr Abdul Kalam International Scholarships

University of Sydney International Scholarship (USydIS)

Eligibility requirements

The University of Sydney invites candidates who are eligible to undertake a Postgraduate Research Degree or Master's by Research program at this University to apply for the University of Sydney International Research Scholarship (USydIS). 

The objective of the USydIS is to attract top quality international postgraduate students to undertake research projects which will enhance the University's research activities. The USydIS is open to all research disciplines; however participation in the USydIS program Research Period 2 and Research Period 3 are at the discretion of the Dean of each faculty. These Scholarships will be awarded in conjunction with the International RTP Fee Scholarship (formerly IPRS) for commencement in Research Period 2 (March), and in early April for commencement in Research Period 3 (July). 

Application details

The USydIS is available to students commencing in both the March (Research Period 2) and July (Research Period 3). We welcome scholarship applications throughout the year. Please note that it may take up to four months from submission of your application to receiving advice on whether you have been successful. There is no separate scholarship application form, to be considered for the scholarship you must submit an application for admission to your research degree.

To be considered for an University of Sydney International Scholarship (USydIS), a student must:

  • Read the selection process and Research Experience guide
  • Download and complete the Research Experience Evidence Template according to the guidelines in the Research Experience Guide
  • Prepare an application for admission to your degree (see guidelines)
  • Go to Sydney Courses and look up the research degree you applying for. Complete an application for admission for a research degree (e.g. Doctor of Philosophy).
  • In the application form for admission, when prompted, ensure you tick the relevant section on the admission form "Do you wish to be considered for an Research Training Program Fee Scholarship or University of Sydney International Scholarship (USydIS)?"
  • Upload all other required supporting and Faculty specific documentation for application for admission.
  • Submit your completed application form.

Please note: you must submit all required supporting and faculty specific documentation before your application is considered to be complete. For scholarship selection purposes, applicants must also submit Research Experience Evidence information.

Value details

The USydIS will cover tuition fees and living allowance for up to three years with a possibility of one semester's extension for PhD students.

Vice-Chancellor International Scholarships Scheme

Eligibility requirements

The Vice Chancellor’s International Scholarships are awarded to exceptional international students based on academic merit. The Scholarship is open to all commencing international students enrolling in an undergraduate or postgraduate coursework degree and all applicants are automatically considered.

Open to all international students who have an unconditional offer of admission for a full-time undergraduate or postgraduate coursework program at the University of Sydney by the deadline set in section “Scholarship Offer Details” below.

The Scholarship will be awarded on the basis of academic merit as assessed from a student’s application for admission to an undergraduate or postgraduate coursework degree.

Application details

There is no separate application for this scholarship, all eligible students will automatically be considered.

Faculty of Science Dean's International Postgraduate Research Scholarships

The Faculty of Science offers a limited number of The Dean’s International Postgraduate Research Scholarships. These are full-time postgraduate research scholarships for outstanding international students wishing to undertake a research doctorate degree in the Faculty. These Scholarships are awarded to international students currently enrolled in at least a four year Bachelors Degree in Science which includes an independent research project.

Australia Awards Scholarships (AAS)

Eligibility requirements

AAS are funded by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) as part of Australia’s foreign aid program. The AAS provide opportunities for people from selected developing countries to study in Australia. These Scholarships are awarded either on merit or on nomination by home governments. Information and application forms for the AAS must be obtained directly from the Australian Diplomatic Mission or the Australian Education Centre in your home country. Application process may take up to one year.
Successful scholarship recipients will be eligible for a University of Sydney application fee refund if they remain enrolled after the first census date.

Paris Industry Placement Program Scholarship

Candidates must be enrolled in a coursework degree in the University of Sydney Business School at the University of Sydney. Combined degree students are also eligible.

Candidates must be currently enrolled in BUSS2502 or BUSS6504. Students who have previously completed BUSS2502 or BUSS6504 are not eligible.

Candidates must have completed a minimum of 48 credit points of study with a minimum Weighted Average Mark (WAM) of 70, unless they can demonstrate financial hardship, in which case a minimum WAM of 65 is required.

The Local Industry Placement Program Scholarship has been established to enrich the student experience and promote the profile of this program.

The Local Industry Placement Program Scholarship  is available to students enrolled in the Local Industry Placement Program (BUSS2100 or BUSS6500) at the University of Sydney Business School.

Eligible programs include University of Sydney Business School undergraduate degrees or undergraduate combined Commerce degree programs; a Master of Commerce, Master of Professional Accounting or a Master of Human Resource Management and Industrial Relations degree.
