Eligibility requirements

This scholarship is available to eligible international students who are from Singapore, Malaysia or South Asia (includes Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Myanmar, Nepal, India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka).

Eligible students from the above regions, who meet the entry requirements for 'direct entry' into the Bachelor of Laws degree  will gain a scholarship for all four years of their law studies.

Students who meet University of Tasmania 'general entry' requirements will qualify for a scholarship from their second year onwards.

Please note, students who receive more than one scholarship offer cannot retain two tuition fee scholarships; the scholarship with the highest value would be the recommended scholarship to accept.

Application details

Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice Scholarships

A new Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice Scholarship is being offered  to all eligible international students who are Malaysian, Singaporean or from South Asia (Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka).

Students who meet the entry requirements for the Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice and who are from eligible countries listed above will be granted the scholarship.

Please note, students who receive more than one scholarship offer cannot retain two tuition fee scholarships; the scholarship with the highest value would be the recommended scholarship to accept.

AMC Seafaring Scholarship

Available to high achieving international students from India who have an offer of a full-time place in one of the following AMC onshore courses commencing in Semester 1 or 2, 2019.

  • Bachelor of Applied Science (Marine Engineering) 23R Engineer Class2/Class 1 Phase only; OR
  • Bachelor of Applied Science (Nautical Science) 23Q Chief Mate/Master Phase only

Selection will be based on academic merit and the quality of the applicant’s 750-1000 word statement of purpose.

On-going Eligibility

To maintain this scholarship students are required to achieve a Credit (5.0/7.0) cumulative grade point average (CGPA) in their eligible AMC degree units at the end of each academic year.

Dean of Law’s Merit Scholarship

Available to international students from India, Malaysia, Singapore and Sri Lanka who meet the following eligibility criteria:

Are citizens of one of the above listed countries;

Applicants of Malaysian, Singaporean or Sri Lankan citizenship must have received an offer of a full-time place in one of the following degrees:

  • Bachelor of Laws (Graduate Entry) (63I1) commencing in Semester 1 (February), 2019;
  • Bachelor of Laws (Direct Entry) (63P1) commencing in Semester 1 (February), 2019; OR
  • Combined Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Laws (63J1) commencing in either Winter (June), 2018 or Semester 1 (February), 2019.

Applicants of Indian citizenship must have received an offer of a full-time place in:

  • A combined Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Laws (63J1) commencing in either Winter (June), 2018 or Semester 1 (February), 2019;
  • have not previously undertaken any tertiary studies (excluding extension studies completed as part of a year 12 program or its equivalent); and
  • are not applying for advanced standing/credit.

Ongoing Eligibility

To retain this award, recipients are required to remain enrolled full-time (100% per year) in one of the above listed degrees and achieve a Credit (5.0/7.0) cumulative grade point average (CGPA) at the end of each academic year.

Tasmanian School of Business and Economics (TSBE) Tasmanian International Scholarship (TIS)

Available to all commencing international students who submit an application to study one of the eligible programs offered by the Tasmanian School of Business & Economics. Applicants can view a list of TSBE courses which are eligible for TIS.

Applicants are automatically assessed for this scholarship at the time of submitting their International Student Online Application.  Applicants can be awarded TIS for all semester intakes.  Selection for this scholarship will be based on high achievement in studies at secondary, diploma and degree level courses.

Applicants will be notified in their Offer Packs if they have been successful in being awarded a scholarship provided final results have been submitted. Successful students will, in addition, receive a scholarship offer outlining the details of their TIS including conditions. Students should read their scholarship offer carefully. Please note that this scholarship is only available to commencing students. International Scholarships will not reassess current students based on their academic progress at UTAS.

Ongoing Eligibility

To retain this award, recipients are required to maintain satisfactory progress for the duration of the course they have been awarded the scholarship.  A minimum of a Pass result in every unit is required to maintain satisfactory academic progress. Examination results are reviewed each semester by the Scholarships Selection Committee to determine ongoing eligibility.  Recipients who do not meet ongoing eligibility will be notified by email.

MITS Launceston Accommodation Bursary

Study level

Eligibility requirements

Available to international students who accept their offer to study on the Launceston campus in the Master of Information Technology and Systems (K7I) degree program in Semester 2, 2019.

Students must be enrolled in a full-time load per semester post-census date to receive the bursary and have applied for University accommodation (single accommodation only).

Accommodation is only available in the University's Kerslake, Leprena or Investigator Hall in Launceston. Rooms are assigned at the University's discretion and cannot be disputed.

Tasmanian International Scholarship (TIS) recipients are still eligible to receive the Accommodation Bursary in Launceston.

Application details

International Students applying to study on the Launceston campus in the Master of Information Technology and Systems (K7I) program are assessed automatically upon submission of their International Student Application, there is no need to apply separately.

Value details

Singles only University accommodation in Launceston for 42 weeks to 2 years at 50% of the advertised rate.

Family Alumni Bursary

Eligibility requirements

The bursary is available for the Foundation Studies Program, undergraduate (excl Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery) and postgraduate coursework degrees (some exclusions apply).

Students must be able to demonstrate that they previously had, or currently have a parent or sibling studying at the University of Tasmania. This discount is also extended to students who have more than one brother or sister, who has or is studying at UTAS.

Students who receive more than one scholarship offer cannot retain two tuition fee scholarships; the scholarship with the highest value would be the recommended scholarship to accept.

Please note that international students who become a citizen of Australia, Permanent Resident or change from a student visa to a Protection Visa or Permanent Humanitarian Visa, and who have been awarded any international tuition fee scholarship or bursary, will become ineligible to retain the award from commencement of their next enrolment period onwards.

Students must submit a Family Alumni Bursary Application to be assessed for this discount. Students must also attach the following certified documents together with their application to demonstrate eligibility for the Family Alumni Bursary:

  • Sibling's Birth certificate (Original and English translation)
  • Passport (bio-data) page for Applicant

  • Student ID cards or evidence of enrolment
  • Adoption Evidence (only required if applicable)

Bachelor of Legal Studies Scholarship

Eligibility requirements

This scholarship is available to eligible international students who are from the Asian region (includes all countries in South-East Asia, North Asia, South Asia, West Asia, Central Asia, the Middle East and Russia, and who are commencing the Bachelor of Legal Studies at the University of Tasmania in Semester 1 (February) or Winter (June) Semester 2018 or 2019.

Students who are from one of the regions listed above, will automatically be awarded the 14% Bachelor of Legal Studies Scholarship.

Students transferring from the Bachelor of Laws to the Bachelor of Legal Studies and who are from any of the regions listed above, will be eligible to receive the 14% Bachelor of Legal Studies Scholarship.

Please note, students who receive more than one scholarship offer cannot retain two tuition fee scholarships; the scholarship with the highest value would be the recommended scholarship to accept.

Women in Seafaring Scholarship

Scholarships will be awarded to international female students commencing their first year of studies in Semester 1 in one of the following programs:

  • Bachelor of Applied Science (Marine Engineering) - 23R
  • Bachelor of Applied Science (Nautical Science) - 23Q

To be eligible, students must apply with University of Tasmania Accommodation Services for On-Campus Accommodation in Investigator Hall, Kerslake Hall or Leprena are responsible for the accommodation application fee and bond (these costs are NOT covered by this scholarship).

On-going Eligibility

To retain this award recipients are required to achieve a minimum Pass (4.0/7.0) result in all units studied each semester.

Application details

Students are assessed automatically for the Women in Seafaring Scholarship upon submission of their International Student Application, there is no need to submit a separate scholarship application.

Value details

The scholarship will cover one semester of the first year of on-campus accommodation costs in a single room at one of the Halls of Residence in Launceston (Investigator Hall, Kerslake Hall or Leprena). PLUS: recipients will receive AUD $2,000 towards educational costs - which will be paid directly into the student's nominated bank account shortly after census date.

AMC Principal's Merit Scholarship

Available to high achieving off-shore international students who have an offer of a full-time place in an onshore TSBE undergraduate, honours or postgraduate coursework degree (excluding Master of Professional Accounting, Master of Professional Accounting Specialisation, and combined degrees with other colleges), commencing in Semester 1 or 2, 2019.  As grading scales vary from country to country, interested applicants/agents should contact their In-Country Manager or Regional Development Manager regarding detailed eligibility requirements.

Students who do not meet the eligibility requirements for this scholarship will also be assessed for a Tasmanian International Scholarship.

International Women in Maritime Engineering Scholarship

Undergraduate - Scholarships will be awarded to international female students who are eligible to commence one of the following programs: Bachelor of Engineering (Marine & Offshore Engineering) (Honours), Bachelor of Engineering (Ocean Engineering) (Honours), or Bachelor of Engineering (Naval Architecture) (Honours). Students entering these programs with advanced standing will be considered on a case by case basis.

Postgraduate - Scholarships will be awarded to international female students who are eligible to commence the Master of Engineering (Maritime Design) 2 year program. Not available to applicants entering with advanced standing.

This discount provides international students who have completed an undergraduate program at the University of Tasmania with a 10% discount on the registered tuition fees for enrolment in a postgraduate coursework program. The discount is available for all postgraduate coursework programs. Please note that if a student has already been offered a Tasmanian International Scholarship or the Family Alumni Bursary the International Postgraduate Discount will not apply.

University of Tasmania graduates applying for a postgraduate coursework program at UTAS will automatically be in receipt of the International Postgraduate Discount upon submission of their International Student Online Application.

Access, Participation and Partnerships Tasmanian International Scholarship (TIS)

Eligibility requirements

Available to all commencing international students who submit an application to study the Foundation Studies Program leading to an undergraduate degree at the University of Tasmania. Applicants are automatically assessed for this scholarship. Selection for this scholarship will be based on sound achievement in previous secondary level courses with a minimum overall 'Distinction' average or equivalent for academic subjects undertaken within secondary school or equiv.

Applicants will be notified in their Offer if they have been successful in being awarded a TIS scholarship which will include a scholarship offer outlining the conditions that apply to the TIS award. Important: Applicants must accept their offer within 3 weeks from the date of issue in order to retain their scholarship. Students should read the conditions of their scholarship carefully. Please note that this scholarship is only available to commencing students. Current students will not be reassessed on the basis on their academic progress at UTAS.

Ongoing Eligibility

Examination results are reviewed each semester by the Scholarships Selection Committee to determine ongoing eligibility. Recipients who do not meet ongoing eligibility will be notified by email. Recipients must achieve a minimum overall Distinction level in the first semester of FSP to be eligible to receive the scholarship in their second semester.

TIS recipients will be reassessed for ongoing eligibility into their chosen degree based on their cumulative end of year FSP results.  Students that have achieved the required CGPA (cumulative grade point average) will be offered a TIS by the faculty with which they have an Offer of Enrolment and will be notified by email of their eligibility.

Recipients who are not successful in being awarded a TIS for their degree studies, will still be entitled to the FSP to degree 10% discount.

Foundation Studies Program to Degree Discount

This discount provides international students who have completed the University's Foundation Studies Program (FSP) with a 10% discount on the registered tuition fees for enrolment in their undergraduate coursework program. The discount is available for all undergraduate programs (including an Honours program if applicable).  Please note that if a student has already been offered a Tasmanian International Scholarship, Kumar Sangakkara Scholarship or Sibling Discount, this FSP to Degree discount will not apply.

This discount is available to University of Tasmania FSP graduates who have applied for an undergraduate course at UTAS. Please note that this discount will not apply to students who after completing FSP, chose to study at another institution and then return to UTAS at a later time.

Students applying for a FSP to degree package at UTAS will automatically be in receipt of the FSP to Degree Discount upon submission of their International Student Online Application. This discount will come into effect for the undergraduate program.

Faculty of Health Tasmanian International Scholarship (TIS)

Eligibility requirements

Available to all commencing international students who submit an application to study one of the eligible programs offered by the Faculty of Health.

As a limited number of scholarships are available for eligible programs, selection for these scholarships is very competitive and will be based on exceptional achievement in studies at secondary, diploma and degree level programs.

To be considered for a Faculty of Health TIS, applicants will require the equivalent to an 'A' average (80% overall) in their previous studies. Successful applicants must return their acceptance with payment by the date specified on their offer letter to retain the award. Applicants will be notified in their Offer of Enrolment if they have been successful in being awarded a scholarship, provided final results have been submitted. Successful students will find the details and conditions of the scholarship within their TIS Scholarship Offer. Students should read their scholarship offer carefully. Please note that this scholarship is only available to commencing students.
