Australia Awards Scholarships are long term development awards administered by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.They aim to contribute to the long term development needs of Australia's partner countries in line with bilateral and regional agreements. They provide opportunities for people from developing countries to undertake full time undergraduate or postgraduate study at participating Australian universities and Technical and Further Education (TAFE) institutions. The study and research opportunities provided by Australia Awards Scholarships develop skills and knowledge of individuals to drive change and contribute to the development outcomes of their own country.The University of Western Australia is an approved provider of the Australia Awards scholarships.

International Research Training Program (RTP) Scholarships

Eligibility requirements

Applications for international postgraduate research scholarships at UWA are rated according to the following criteria:

(a) Academic achievement; (b) English language achievement; and (c) Research experience. 

Allocation of scholarships is the outcome of a competitive ranking and selection process in which applications are scored and ranked by Schools, Faculties and the University Scholarships Committee, according to these common criteria and on the basis of evidence provided.

University Postgraduate Awards F51204

Eligibility requirements

These awards are tenable at The University of Western Australia for up to two years for Masters by research candidates and three years for Doctoral candidates. PhD scholarships may be extended to a maximum of three and a half years.

Successful UPA applicants may also be offered a UWA Safety-Net Top-Up Scholarship valued at AUD $2,318 pa in 2017. The combined value of these scholarships for 2017 is AUD $29,000. The UPA stipend will be adjusted annually in line with the Commonwealth Department of Education indexation. The value of the UWA Safety-Net Top-Up Scholarship is at the discretion of the UWA Scholarships Committee and will also be adjusted each year, reducing as the UPA increases.

The Safety-Net Top-Up program will be discontinued when the value of the UPA reaches or exceeds AUD $29,000 per annum.

Research Training Program (RTP) Scholarships

The University of Western Australia has a range of postgraduate research scholarships available for local (domestic) and international students, including Research Training Program (RTP) Scholarships.

These awards are tenable at The University of Western Australia for up to two years for Masters by research candidates and three years for Doctoral candidates. PhD scholarships may be extended to a maximum of three and a half years.

International Centre for Radio Astronomy Research (ICRAR) Postgraduate International Scholarship

Eligibility requirements

  • International postgraduate candidates only.
  • Excellent undergraduate academic record (first class Honours or equivalent).
  • Minimum university English language proficiency requirements.
  • Undergraduate degree in physics, astrophysics, ICT or electronic engineering. Excellent academic references.
  • The successful candidates will need to apply for a SIRF scholarship at UWA to cover the cost of tuition fees and health insurance. We do not provide for visa costs or English language tests.
  • The application should include a short statement describing academic achievements, previous research projects and other relevant experience. Provide contact details for two academic referees whom should provde a short email in spport of the application.

Society for Underwater Technology Educational Support Fund

Eligibility requirements

The Society for Underwater Technology (SUT), through its Educational Support Fund, will offer annual scholarship awards to either undergraduate and/or postgraduate students undertaking studies that embrace relevant component areas of marine science, underwater technology or offshore engineering.  Applicants are welcome to apply where they can demonstrate a clear interest in pursuing a career in a relevant area of underwater technology.

The SUT Education Support Fund will consider awarding up to six scholarships for fulltime students entering the last two years of their undergraduate course, or undertaking a postgraduate course.

The undergraduate scholarship awards may continue throughout the remaining part of the degree course, subject to a satisfactory academic standard being maintained.  This performance will be reviewed annually.  (Note: re-application via the web site is necessary to be considered for continuance of the scholarship.)

The grants are open to any student studying in Australia, irrespective of age or nationality.

Kidney Health Australia Summer Vacation Scholarships

Telethon Kids Institute and School of Paediatrics and Child Health Vacation Scholarships

  • Enrolled full-time undergraduate students who have completed at least two years of an approved course at a Western Australian university; and
  • For the Telethon Kids Scholarships, applicants must be supervised by a minimum of one EMCR from the Telethon Kids Institute. Applicants who have EMCR supervisors across different research groups and research organisations will be given first consideration.
  • For the joint scholarship, applicants must be supervised by a minimum of one EMCR supervisor from the School of Paediatrics and Child Health and one EMCR supervisor from the Telethon Kids Institute.

Gravity Discovery Center Foundation John and Robin De Laeter Teriary Science Engagement Scholarship
