Growing Impact of that Shadowy Band

Study level

Postgraduate

Eligibility requirements

Interested parties must contact  Dr Emilie Dotte before applying. The project managers reserve the right to make an appointment before the closing date if a suitable candidate is identified.

The growing impact of that shadowy band: a history of womens engagement in 20th century Australian and New Zealand archaeology

Description:We are looking for a highly motivated candidate with interdisciplinary interests in history, gender studies, archaeology and material culture studies, and Pacific and Australian studies, to conduct an innovative PhD research project that will focus especially on the particular dynamics that characterized the increasing engagement of women in New Zealand and Australian archaeology, accompanying the developments in Pacific archaeology between the 1950s and the 1970s. New Zealand saw a relatively rapid integration of women in archaeological establishments, certainly linked to early advances in legal rights, while Australia became a dynamic stage of international reputation for gendered approaches to archaeological analysis. It will be important to better understand the similarities and differences between these countries' academic circles and societal contexts and their relations with the Pacific Islands  considering colonial legacies and relations with Indigenous cultures or people.

Revealing the Role of G-Proteins in Heat and Drought Stress Response in Wheat

Study level

Postgraduate

Eligibility requirements

Master of Science or equivalent.

Any change in the environment is sensed by plants mostly through cell-surface proteins. Thus, we can exploit the knowledge of such molecular mechanisms to study heat and drought tolerance in plants. G-protein signaling is one such mechanism of relaying downstream signals in response to external stimuli. Plants use hetero-trimeric G-protein signaling to regulate growth and development. In this project, the role of G-proteins and Regulators of G-protein signaling (RGS) will be explored using various bioinformatics tools, molecular and biochemical studies. Results of this study will give us a better insight into the role of G-proteins in heat and drought responses.
