Established in 1911, Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) has grown steadily over the last century to become a top destination for international students from around the world. MTSU is committed to equipping students with the knowledge and skills they’ll need to compete in a fast-changing world and succeed in their chosen line of work. MTSU featured in the Princeton Review Best Universities in the Nation list for 2020 and 2021, in addition to making the list of the Best 385 Colleges in the U.S. for three years in succession.
MTSU offers more than 180 undergraduate programs through its eight undergraduate colleges and 40 departments, while the university’s College of Graduate Studies offers programs in over 100 areas of study. Many of MTSU’s programs are internationally recognized for their quality and rigor. Dedicated faculty members train students to handle real-world scenarios and even to anticipate and prepare for careers that may not exist yet. Practical training in MTSU begins at the undergraduate level, where students may find themselves combing an archeological dig site, assisting patients on an underwater treadmill, or adjusting a robot at a manufacturing facility.
Over the past few years, MTSU has invested significantly – up to USD 1 billion – in new construction, with the state-of-the-art Science Building being a highlight among many modern upgrades. Students will benefit from cutting-edge classroom teaching aids as well as carefully designed research, study, and gathering spaces built to promote faculty-student interaction.
MTSU’s stunning 550-acre campus offers a stimulating physical environment, easy access to sporting events, and abundant options for students to entertain themselves outside of academics and classes. With more than 100 student groups active on campus, students can take their pick of activities to be involved in to make the most of their time at MTSU.
While a lot of attention is paid to the overall student experience at MTSU, it is recognized that the priority is providing learners with an education that gets them ready for success at work. As such, MTSU offers a student success initiative which offers students the chance to take up free tutoring, career training, and regular advisement on preparing them for their future career.
Many of the study programs at MTSU are designed in partnership with industries so that students can get the knowledge and skills needed for their job market. Students will often have the chance to undergo placements and learning within professional environments as part of their degree.
As a result, MTSU gives students an exceptional platform to move into employment and is the largest contributor to the workforce of the state of Nashville. One in five college graduates in the region has a degree from MTSU, with over 64,000 university alumni employed in the area.
MTSU is an institution that refuses to stand still. Instead, it is constantly looking at how it can evolve its study programs and facilities to better meet the needs of students, faculty and the wider job market.
That’s why the university has spent over USD 1 billion in recent years on upgrading the campus with renovations and new buildings, the most recent being the brand-new School of Concrete and Construction Management, a USD 40 million facility due to be opened for the Fall 2022 intake. This innovative facility will take the already-leading programs of Concrete Industry Management and Construction Management to new heights.
This will soon be followed by a new Applied Engineering Building, which will be available to help meet the demand of the growing Engineering Technology Department and specifically students on the Mechatronics Engineering program.
