MiraCosta College, home to 32,000 students, is a public education provider based out of two campuses in California, in the USA.
MiraCosta helps students progress to a bachelor's degree at a top university in California. There are over 50 degree programs and transfer programs to five University of California campuses that students can choose from.
Subject areas covered include accounting, automotive technology, biomanufacturing, cyber security, architectural design, mechanical design, hospitality management, web development and design, and many more.
The college is known for its excellence in learning and teaching. MiraCosta is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges (ACCJC), and the U.S. Department of Education.

A recognized leader in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education, MiraCosta is one of only 15 community colleges in the State of California approved to award four-year bachelor’s degrees. The Bachelor of Science degree in biomanufacturing complements the college’s award-winning associate degree in biotechnology. With tuition costs significantly lower than at four-year universities, this undergraduate program is a great option for students wishing to complete a practical degree that offers excellent employment opportunities.
Starting in 2020, MiraCosta began awarding a USD 8,000 scholarship for international students completing their first year of study in a STEM major. All students benefit from the STEM Learning Center, which is available at the library and online. It offers a positive and nurturing learning environment that is surrounded by peers, content specialists, tutors and academic counselors. It’s ideal for those interested in science, engineering, and computer science.
For the fourth year in a row, MiraCosta students have won the prestigious Jack Kent Cooke Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship worth USD 40,000 per year, to complete their bachelor’s degrees. Among thousands of applicants nationwide, international student Nhi Tran was one of the 2019 recipients. Nhi will use her scholarship to transfer to U.C. Berkeley for a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry. MiraCosta is the only community college with multiple award winners each year.
MiraCosta College offers a top-class level of education, which is accredited by the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges (ACCJC) and the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). The college also offers support to students to make the right career decisions within the Center for Career Studies and Services. Also known as the careers center, this facility helps students make informed career decisions. It offers career assessment and counselling to students, as well as credit courses in career and life planning, internships, and co-operative work experience education workshops. All of these tools are geared towards providing students with the necessary skills to undertake results-oriented jobs and internship searches. Students can build their own online portfolios using the Portfolium tool. The center also conducts workshops to help use the tool.
MiraCosta College offers a wide range of subjects. Students can go down one of six specially-designed Academic and Career Pathways (ACPs). These are a collection of majors with related courses that fit together to guide students towards fulfilling careers.
ACPs include relevant courses, integrated experiences and support services to generate favorable graduate outcomes. Students join a community of like-minded individuals and can develop education plans by narrowing down their choices of majors. Academic and Career Pathways are offered in the following areas:
International students are offered the chance to choose from over 50 academic majors at MiraCosta College, covering numerous disciplines ranging from accounting to web design. Students can opt for a two-year degree or transfer to a university with various study options.
International students can reach the university of their dreams via MiraCosta College, with classes transferring to four-year universities such as the University of California and California State Universities. MiraCosta College boasts one of the highest transfer rates to the University of California out of all community colleges in San Diego County, with students typically earning higher GPAs than non-transfer students.
MiraCosta College offers the following types of degrees: Associate in Arts (A.A.), Associate in Science (A.S.), Associate in Arts for Transfer (A.A.-T), Associate in Science for Transfer (A.S.-T), and a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Biomanufacturing.
Certificate programs are designed to provide focused training in a professional career area, preparing students for high-demand jobs. They can be completed between one year and eighteen months’, with popular areas of study including child development; design and drafting; graphic design; business management; marketing; recording arts; video and media design.
MiraCosta offers affordable tuition of USD 8,100 per year for full-time study. A range of scholarships are offered to continuing students each spring semester. Scholarships of USD 500 to USD 2,000 are offered to a wide range of students based upon academic achievement, volunteer services, or a specific major or career goal. The Schneider Scholarship for International Students awards USD 8,000 to international students in the second year of a STEM major.
To accommodate students affected by closures and travel restrictions, MiraCosta has modified the application process to support international students seeking to start college classes. There is no application fee for college admission. Application forms can be submitted by email with official documentation completed upon arriving to MiraCosta College. Students who lack the required English language skills can apply for conditional admission and begin their studies at the English Language Institute (ELI).

MiraCosta College aims to prepare students for successful journeys after graduating, whether they finalize study at MiraCosta or at another four-year institution. Students who plan to transfer to a four-year university benefit from excellent transfer services such as TAG, IGETC, UniversityLink and counselor application support.
MiraCosta College is one of the community colleges in San Diego County with a top transfer rate to the University of California. Students also typically earn higher GPAs than non-transfer students. For international students completing their program in spring 2020, the number one transfer school is UCLA.
The MiraCosta College Alumni Association plays an important role in supporting the success of former students and offers a useful network for students to engage with each other and share opportunities and advice.
