Eligibility requirements

To be eligible to apply for the Scholarship, an applicant must meet all of the following criteria:

  • Must be a citizen of a country in the South East Asia Region (Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar [Burma], Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam); and
  • Must be an international student (not an Australian citizen, New Zealand citizen or permanent resident of Australia); and
  • Must be completing or have completed an International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma from the South East Asia Region (Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar [Burma], Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam); and
  • Meet the UTS admission criteria for the selected UTS undergraduate degree course; and
  • Must obtain an aggregate score including bonus and penalty points of 28 or above in their International Baccalaureate (IB) final grades or 33 or above in their International Baccalaureate predicted grades at the point of scholarship application; and
  • Completed the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma no longer than 1 year prior to commencing at UTS, and be admitted based on this qualification to UTS; and
  • All candidates must apply using the UTS online Scholarships application form to be eligible.

International Undergraduate Full Tuition Scholarship

To be eligible for the Scholarship, an applicant must:

  • be an international student at the time of application (not an Australian citizen, New Zealand citizen or permanent resident of Australia); and
  • meet all admission requirements for the selected course; and
  • commence full-time studies on campus; and
  • have completed an Australian Year 12 or high school studies comparable to an Australian Year 12, no longer than three (3) years prior to commencing at UTS and be admitted based on this qualification to UTS; and
  • have an overall mark of 85% or equivalent in a UTS recognized high school qualification; and
  • all applicants must apply using the UTS online Scholarships Application form to be eligible.

Scholarship for Gaokao Students from People’s Republic of China

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible to apply for the Scholarship, an applicant must meet all the following criteria:

  • Must be an international student (not an Australian citizen, New Zealand citizen or permanent resident of Australia); and
  • Must have completed Senior Secondary School (Grade 12) in China and undertaken the Gaokao administrated by Provincial or Municipal Education Examination Authority, China; and
  • Must meet all UTS admission criteria for the selected UTS undergraduate degree course; and
  • Must have completed the Gaokao no longer than one year prior to commencing at UTS, and be admitted based on this qualification to UTS; and
  • Must not be enrolled in a UTS Transnational Program.

Application details

UTS International will automatically consider all commencing international students from China who have completed the Gaokao no longer than one year prior to commencing at UTS, and are applying for an undergraduate coursework program at UTS in Sydney.

UTS FEIT International Mathematical Olympiad Scholarship Vietnam

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for the Scholarship, an applicant must meet all of the following criteria:

  • Must be an international student (not an Australian citizen, New Zealand citizen or permanent resident of Australia); and
  • Be a citizen of Vietnam at time of application to UTS and throughout the period of study at UTS;
  • Be a gold, silver or bronze medallist of the annual International Mathematical Olympiad the year prior to or the same year as applying for this Scholarship;
  • Have applied and been deemed eligible for admission and meet standard UTS entry requirements for any undergraduate degree at the Faculty of Engineering and IT;
  • Not already be studying in Australia; and
  • Must not be enrolled in a UTS Transnational Program.

Applicants are required to complete an online written application.

100% of each Recipient’s UTS tuition fees and the Student Services & Amenities Fees for an approved course paid, for the Scholarship’s maximum duration as defined. A financial contribution towards living and learning expenses of AUD $28,000/year for the Scholarship’s maximum duration.

International Studies Overseas Access Scholarship

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for the Scholarship, an applicant must meet all of the following criteria:

  • Must be enrolled in a Bachelor’s combined degree with the Bachelor of Arts in International Studies
  • Must have completed a minimum of two (2) sessions of study (totalling 48 credit points or equivalent) including Foundations in International Studies and their core language subjects; and
  • Achieved an minimum overall WAM of a Distinction (WAM 75 or above) in their course to date.

Selection process

Selection will be based on:

  • Academic merit in the Foundations in International Studies and language core subjects to date;
  • Personal Statement outlining financial or personal need and how the funds would assist the student with the constraints of in-country study.

Mineral Economics and Capital Markets

Eligible applicants must have the following necessary attributes:

  1. An Honours or Masters level degree in a technical discipline such as computer science, engineering, finance, accounting or a mining specific field such as geology. Practical experience in a mining company setting is also advantageous;
  2. A desire to undertake rigorous empirical capital markets or accounting research related to the extractive industries at a higher level; and
  3. English language proficiency is required for entry to UTS. Any of the options below apply to Business research degrees:

Ross Milbourne Research Scholarship in Economics

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for the scholarship, a student must:

  • be accepted for admission to a higher degree by research at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS); and
  • be undertaking a research project in the field of economics; and
  • have completed a Bachelor Degree with First Class Honours, or be regarded by the University as having an equivalent level of attainment in accordance with paragraph 1.3; and
  • be undertaking a higher degree by research (HDR) commencing at the University in the year of the scholarship; and
  • be enrolled as a full-time student unless the University has approved a part-time award under section 4.2 of these Conditions; and
  • not have completed a degree at the same or higher level as the proposed candidature; and
  • not be receiving an equivalent award, scholarship or salary providing a benefit greater than 75% of the scholarship stipend rate to undertake the HDR. Income earned from sources unrelated to the course of study is not subject to the 75% rule.

Only top-scoring applicants will be considered for the Ross Milbourne Scholarship.

UTS ATN-LATAM Scholarships

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for the UTS ATN-LATAM, a student must: be a citizen of one of the following countries: Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico, Paraguay, Peru or Uruguay; and 

be an overseas student as defined in the Higher Education Support Act 2003; and
be a holder of an international student visa, meeting requirements as specified by the Department of Home Affairs, including the requirement to purchase and maintain a standard Overseas Student Health Cover policy approved by the Commonwealth Government Department of Health; and
have completed a Bachelor Degree with First Class Honours, or be regarded by the University as having an equivalent level of attainment in accordance with clause (d); and
where applicants do not hold a Bachelor degree with First Class Honours in clause (c) above, the University may determine that the applicant has demonstrated an equivalent level of academic attainment. In determining an equivalent level of academic attainment, the University may consider previous study, relevant work experience, research publications, referees' reports and other research experience; and
be undertaking a higher degree by research (HDR) at the University in the year of the award (awards are not available to applicants whose enrolment into a postgraduate research program has not been accepted by the University); and
be commencing full time enrolment for the first time in a higher degree by research (HDR) at the University; and

not have completed a degree at the same or higher level as the proposed candidature; and

must not previously have held an Australian Government-funded postgraduate research scholarship unless it was terminated within six months of the scholarship’s payments commencing; and must not be receiving an equivalent award, scholarship or salary providing a benefit greater than 75% of the stipend rate to undertake the HDR.

To be eligible for the UTS IRS, a student must:

  • be an overseas student as defined in the Higher Education Support Act 2003 (Cth); and
  • purchase and maintain a standard OSHC policy approved by the Commonwealth government Department of Health and Ageing; and
  • be commencing full-time enrolment in a Higher Degree by Research (HDR) at UTS;
  • be undertaking study in a subject area identified by the University as one of its areas of research concentration; and
  • not hold a research qualification regarded by the University to be equivalent to an Australian research doctorate degree or, if undertaking a research master's degree, not hold a research qualification regarded by the provider to be equivalent to or higher than an Australian research master's degree; and
  • not have held an Australian Agency for International Development scholarship within the two years prior to commencing the UTS IRS; and
  • not be receiving a scholarship for which course tuition is a component under any other scholarship scheme to which the Australian Government makes a substantial contribution; and
  • not previously have received a UTS IRS for a research doctorate degree, unless converting to a research master's degree; and
  • not previously have received an UTS IRS for a research master's degree, unless: ii) that degree was completed and the student is immediately undertaking a research doctorate degree; or ii) the student has converted their HDR under paragraph 3.25.15 of the Commonwealth Scholarships Guidelines (Research) 2010

  • be commencing full-time enrolment in a Higher Degree by Research (HDR) at UTS (UTSPs are not available to applicants whose enrolment into a postgraduate research program has not been accepted by the University);
  • be undertaking study in a subject area identified by the University as one of its areas of research concentration; and
  • not have completed a degree at the same or higher level as the proposed candidature; and
  • not previously have held an Australian Government-funded postgraduate research scholarship, unless it was terminated within six months of the scholarship payments commencing; and

International Research Training Program Scholarship (IRTP)

To be eligible for the IRTP, a student must:

  • be undertaking a higher degree by research (HDR) as an overseas student as defined in the Higher Education Support Act 2003 (Cth) at the University in the year of the IRTP Stipend (IRTP Stipends are not available to applicants whose enrolment into a postgraduate research program has not been accepted by the University) in an accredited HDR course; and
  • not be receiving an equivalent award, stipend or salary providing a benefit greater than 75% of the IRTP Scholarship stipend rate to undertake the HDR. Income earned from sources unrelated to the course of study is not subject to the 75% rule; and
  • Not receive an equivalent award or scholarship from the Commonwealth designed to offset HDR fees.

Applicants should ensure that they submit their completed application, including all required supporting documentation, by the relevant application deadline. Incomplete and late applications will not be considered.

There is no separate Application Form for IRTP scholarships for prospective students. Completing one form will mean that you are considered for all associated scholarships (including IRS and UTSP).

Scholarship for Maple Leaf Education System Graduates from People’s Republic of China

  • Must have completed the Canadian British Columbia Certificate of Graduation (2004 graduation program) no longer than one year prior to commencing at UTS, and be admitted to UTS based on this qualification; and

This is an invitation-only scholarship. Successful business students will usually be invited to apply once a year.

The Scholarship covers 100% of tuition fees for 96 credit points of study in the UTS Bachelor of Business program if it is the only tuition fees scholarship held by the Recipient.

UTS Science International Diploma to Degree Scholarship for Excellence (Polytechnics in Singapore)

Master of Professional Engineering Scholarship

To be eligible for the Scholarship, an applicant must meet all of the following criteria:

  • Must remain an international student (not an Australian citizen, New Zealand citizen or permanent resident of Australia) for the duration of the Scholarship; and
  • Must meet all admission requirements for the Master of Professional Engineering program; and
  • Must be commencing at UTS full-time and on campus; and
  • Must not currently be based in Australia; and
  • Must not have completed studies in Australia in the last six months to commencing at UTS; and
  • Must not be a government sponsored student; and
  • Must not be a recipient of another UTS scholarship for the duration of this Scholarship; and
  • Must not be enrolled in a UTS Transnational Program.

Selection process

Selection will be based on:

  • Acceptance of the UTS Master of Professional Engineering (including payment of deposit required).
  • Students who receive the Engineering and IT Postgraduate Academic Excellence Scholarship are not eligible for this scholarship.

UTS International will automatically consider all commencing international students applying for the Master of Professional Engineering program at UTS in Sydney for this Scholarship. There is no separate scholarship application or documentation in addition to what is required for the application for course admission.

UTS Grant for Masters by Coursework Students

To be eligible for the Grant, an applicant must meet all of the following criteria:

  • Must be an international student (not an Australian citizen, New Zealand citizen or permanent resident of Australia); and
  • Must remain an international student post census date for the session in which they receive the Grant; and
  • Must be commencing full-time on-campus (Sydney); and
  • Must meet all admission criteria for the Master by coursework program at UTS; and
  • Must have completed a Bachelor degree or higher qualification in Australia, no longer than 1 year prior to commencing at UTS, and must be admitted based on this qualification to UTS; and
  • Must not be a recipient of a scholarship, grant or the Alumni Advantage Program from UTS; and
  • Must not be enrolled in a UTS Transnational program;
  • Must not be a government sponsored student; and
  • Must not be a student whose course at UTS forms as part of a package offer.

Selection process

Academic merit in the tertiary qualification most recently completed in Australia and recognised by UTS for entry into the selected UTS postgraduate coursework program.

UTS International will automatically consider all commencing international students with a completed Bachelor degree or higher qualification from Australia and applying for a Master by coursework program at UTS in Sydney. There is no separate application or documentation in addition to what is required for the coursework application.
