Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for the Bursary you must:

  • be a new international student commencing an undergraduate or postgraduate coursework program at Western Sydney in 2019, for the first time
  • be a first time applicant, applying for admission to an undergraduate or postgraduate program after 20 August 2018
  • be an international student with a Higher Education Sector Visa (Subclass 500)
  • be a citizen of Bangladesh, Cambodia, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Laos, Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, Pakistan, Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand or Vietnam
  • satisfy the academic and English requirement for the undergraduate or postgraduate degree you are applying to
  • accept your Admission Offer by the deadline below

Applicants are not eligible if you:

  • are a citizen of Australia or New Zealand, or hold permanent residency in Australia.
  • are a study abroad or an exchange student coming to the University
  • currently have an existing offer for study in 2019 (any intake)
  • are currently enrolled in an undergraduate degree program at Western Sydney University
  • are a cross institutional applicant
  • are a foundation and diploma student studying at The College
  • are an applicant applying to study at Sydney City campus
  • do not commence study in the session and year indicated in their offer. Commencement may not be deferred
  • are awarded another scholarship by the University or another organisation that covers the cost of tuition fees (fully or partially) to study at Western Sydney University in 2019 (any intake).

Application details

No application is necessary. All new applications for admission will be automatically considered for a bursary. If you are successful, your bursary offer will be outlined in your Offer of Admission letter. Bursaries offered to students commencing study in 2019 are limited. Selection for each intake will be based on early acceptance by the published deadlines.

You must satisfy all academic and English entry requirements and accept your Offer by the deadline date given below for the respective commencing session:

Quarter 2 2019:                 4 March 2019
Quarter 3 2019:                 24 May 2019
Quarter 4 2019:                 16 August 2019

Value details

The Bursary is valued at AUD $3,000 and will be granted as a one-off contribution towards tuition fees. The Bursary does not cover costs associated living expenses, accommodation, transport, overseas student health cover or other costs associated with study.

Vice-Chancellor’s Langtang Valley Scholarship

Eligibility requirements

Applicants must:

  • be an international student with a Higher Education Sector Visa (subclass 500 or 573)
  • be a new international student to Western Sydney University and commence the Bachelor of Tourism Management in 2017
  • reside in the Rasuwa and Helambu areas in Langtang Valley, Nepal
  • achieve a minimum score of 80% in the Higher Secondary Education Board exam for admission and have an English proficiency of IELTS 6.5, with a score of 6 in all sub-bands, or equivalent in PTE or TOEFL.
  • provide a statement in support of their application indicating how they believe the scholarship will assist them with their studies and in their future career.
  • have received an offer of admission to Western Sydney University.
  • have submitted a complete scholarship application by closing date.
  • take up the scholarship and commence studying in 2017.

Applicants must also demonstrate:

  • assurance of a related job on return to Nepal as evidence of an intention to return home after completion of study
  • a connection to the Langtang Valley community would be preferable.

You are not eligible if:

  • You are a citizen of Australia or New Zealand, or hold permanent residency in Australia.
  • You are a study abroad or an exchange student coming to the University.
  • You are currently enrolled.
  • You are deferring their offer to commence study in a different intake for which a scholarship offer has been made.
  • You have been awarded another scholarship.

Application details

Short-listing will be carried out by a panel of officers from the School of Social Sciences and Psychology, chaired by the Dean or a delegated representative. Applicants will be ranked based on the selection criteria and the panel's review of their personal statement.

Master of Chinese Cultural Relations - Nexus Scholarship

Eligibility requirements

  • Completion of an undergraduate degree in Humanities, Social Sciences, Asian Studies, International Relations, Languages, Linguistics or Creative Arts; or completion of an undergraduate degree in other disciplines plus two years of working experience in a relevant discipline.
  • International students (or students whose qualifications have been obtained outside of Australia) need to have an English Proficiency in IELTS of 6.5 with a minimum of 6.0 in each sub test or equivalent, or have a degree which can be confirmed has been taught in English and was completed less than three years prior to their application.
  • Have a GPA of 5.25 on a 7 point scale or equivalent in their most recent undergraduate degree.
  • Must be enrolled as a full-time student in this degree course.
  • Provide two academic references. Letters of support from academics (certified and on letterhead) from previous degrees.
  • If presenting professional or research experience towards eligibility criteria, please provide one academic and one professional reference as evidence of this experience. This evidence should be in the form of two individual letters (certified and on letterhead) one from a previous University and the other verifying the details of the employer and a short description of the duties that were performed.
  • Provide a Research Intent Statement: no more than 250 words explaining the extent to which your previous academic, research or professional experience aligns with the proposed research topic that you will undertake in the thesis component of this Master’s Program and Western Sydney University.
  • Must be a recipient of an unconditional offer to the Master of Chinese Cultural Relations and have accepted this offer.
  • Must reside in Australia for the duration of the degree course, except for periods of approved leave.

Applicants must:

  • be international students with a Higher Education Sector Visa. (Subclass 500)
  • commence a new course of study in 2019 and 2020.
  • have received an offer of admission to Western Sydney University.
  • have met all admission requirements and accepted admission offer by acceptance deadline.
  • has met the academic requirement for scholarship as listed below.
  • had achieved a minimum ATAR of 90 or equivalent in higher secondary studies.
  • not be granted more than 80 credit points advanced standing.

Applicants are not eligible if they:

  • are a citizen of Australia or New Zealand, or hold permanent residency in Australia.
  • are a study abroad or an exchange student coming to the University.
  • are currently enrolled at Western Sydney University and apply for a scholarship for their existing course of study.
  • do not accept the scholarship by the closing date.
  • are applying to study a program located at Sydney City campus.

  • achieve a minimum GPA of 5.95 on a 7 point scale or 3.4 on a 4 point scale (or 85% or above overall) in their undergraduate degree.
  • provide a statement in support of their application indicating how they believe the scholarship will assist them with their studies and in their future career.
  • have received an offer of admission to Western Sydney University.
  • not be seeking to make an application for advanced standing for their course prior to, or after enrolment.
  • have submitted a complete scholarship application by the closing date.

You are not eligible if:

  • you are a citizen of Australia and New Zealand, or hold permanent residency in Australia.
  • you are a study abroad or an exchange student coming to the University.
  • you are currently enrolled at Western Sydney University and apply for a scholarship for the existing course of study.
  • your scholarship application is incomplete.
  • you are applying to study a program located at Sydney City campus.
  • your have been awarded another scholarship by the University or another organisation that covers the cost of tuition fess (partially or fully) to study at Western Sydney University. 
  • are studying a postgraduate research degree.

No application is necessary. All new applications to the University will be automatically considered for a scholarship.

Short-listing will be carried out by a panel of officers from the University. Applicants will be ranked based on the selection criteria and the panel's review. Finalists will be notified via email by the University and will be requested to provide a statement in support of their application indicating how they believe the scholarship will assist them with their studies and in their future career.

Value details

Fifty percent (50%) of tuition fee per annum for the duration of the degree up to two years. Or Twenty five percent (25%) of tuition fee per annum for the duration of the degree up to two years. The scholarship is a tuition fee waiver and does not cover costs associated with living expenses, accommodation, transport, overseas student health cover or other costs associated with study.

Selection will be based on academic achievement in a completed Year 12 qualification or equivalent recognised by Western Sydney University for admission.

Applicants must:

  • be studying in a CRICOS registered undergraduate program
  • satisfy all admission requirements and accept their admission offer

Awards are granted on the basis of academic merit.

Applicants must:

  • be an international student with a Higher Education Sector Visa (Subclass 500)
  • commence a new course of study in 2019 or 2020.
  • have received an unconditional offer of admission to Western Sydney University
  • satisfy all admission requirements and accept their admission offer
  • meet the academic requirement for the scholarship in their most recent completed tertiary qualification recognised by Western Sydney University.

Applicants are not eligible if they:

  • are a citizen of Australia or New Zealand, or hold permanent residency in Australia
  • are a citizen of the People's Republic of China.  Please refer to scholarships available to citizens of the People's Republic of China.
  • are a study abroad or an exchange student coming to the University
  • are currently enrolled at Western Sydney University and apply for a scholarship for their existing course of study
  • do not submit a fully completed application and/or acceptance
  • are applying to study a program located at Sydney City campus
  • have been granted more than 80 credit points advanced standing
  • study less than 80 credit points to complete the course
  • have been awarded another scholarship by the University or another organisation that covers the cost of the tuition fees (fully or partially) to study at Western Sydney University
  • are enrolling in a higher degree research program eg. PhD.

Acceptance date

Scholarships will be granted on a first come first served basis until filled.
Students are advised to accept the scholarship as soon as possible in order to avoid disappointment.
