
As you will be aware, governments around the world have introduced health and safety measures and travel restrictions to prevent the spread of Coronavirus. We understand this may be confusing if you are applying, commencing or returning to your studies, so we’re sharing the best advice to help protect your health and wellbeing.
Looking after your health
The most important thing for you is to look after is your health.
If you have travelled from Hubei province or have had close contact with someone from Hubei lately and have a cough, fever or illness, please see a doctor before you travel. If you have already arrived in your new destination, please seek medical advice from your local doctor as early as possible. Your institution will be able to connect you to a medical professional. The World Health Organization has more information and resources on how you can protect yourself from the Coronavirus, with some key tips for trying to stop yourself and others from getting ill.

Arriving in your new destination
Governments are regularly updating information about Coronavirus. For students travelling to Australia, please check information on cancelled flights, and what to do when you arrive in your new country. This information can be accessed by visiting the Australian government’s dedicated website for students and the government’s health department website. Please check the dedicated websites from countries around the world for current advice and information that may assist you:
Travel restrictions impacting your start date
If you are concerned that travel restrictions may impact the starting date of your studies, please contact your IDP counsellor or your university. They are there to help you coordinate start dates and assist with logistics.

Changes to IELTS testing
There are currently changes being made to IELTS testing. Some of the major alterations include all IELTS tests being suspended in Mainland China, Hong Kong SAR, Macau SAR and Mongolia. Tests in Mainland China and Mongolia are suspended until the 1st of March 2020 as are tests in Macau SAR. IELTS Tests in Hong Kong SAR are suspended until the 17th of February. Tests in other locations are not currentky affected, however this may change.
Dates for the tests will be reviewed and adjusted as the situation develops. If you have already paid for a test, refunds are available, however this should be done online rather than visiting the test centre as opening hours cannot be guaranteed. You should make sure that you keep up to date by visiting the IELTS site for updates and information on the latest developments.
