Unforgettable Korean-themed event by Sunway students

Korean-themed at Sunway

Many Malaysians are huge fans of K-Pop (an abbreviation of Korean Pop) or the general Korean Wave that is taking Asia by storm. Leveraging on this, Sunway students from the Diploma in Events Management, Centre for Tourism, Hospitality and Culinary Management or CTHCM recently organised a fabulous Korean-themed event titled “Hee Mang”, (meaning “Hope” in Korean) at the Sunway Lagoon Club earlier this year.

Guests were treated to free Kimchi tasting, an exhibition on Korean Culture, exciting entertainments by Red Mouse Dance Academy, and not to mention the now infamous “Oppa Gangnam Style” performed by the London Boys. On top of that, the Korean Style Talent Show Competition was a crowd pleaser, and several Korean traditional games such as Gong Gi, Coins and Ddakji were made available for all to play. Not without a good cause, the event was successful in raising RM5000 as kind donation to Rumah HOPE.

Adeline Kok, the event and exhibition advisor for CTHCM students commented on how this project had provided the chance for events students to learn the ways in organising a real-life event: from planning to the execution stage. In addition, students were also exposed to the operational and logistic aspects of events management. For students, such hands-on experience is crucial in securing future job opportunities.

“This event managed to provide me with good learning platforms through real life experiences such as leading a team to organise an event,” said exhibition manager, Lee Jung Loo who is in her last semester in the Diploma in Events Management.
