For Sunway Education Group, which is under the Jeffrey Cheah Foundation, the year 2013 started on a positive note as they signed an important Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) with Elena Cooke Education Fund (ECE) in last December at the Graduate Centre, Sunway University. Sunway Education Group, which consists primarily of Sunway University, Sunway College, Sunway International School, Monash University Sunway Campus and the Jeffrey Cheah School of Medicine, has pledged RM500, 000 worth of scholarships to initiate ECE scholarships for tertiary studies.

This inaugural Sunway Group Education – Elena Cooke Education Fund Scholarships will introduce 10 new scholarships (or equivalent to RM500, 000) to underprivileged students who wish to study at Sunway University or Sunway College from 2013 onwards.

The ECE Fund was established in memory of Ms Elena Maud Cooke, a visionary educator who aspired many through her relentless efforts in assisting needy or underprivileged students. She was also the longest-serving headmistresses (1958-1977) at BGGS (Bukit Bintang Girls School). The ECE Fund is run by BBGS Alumni Berhad (BAB).

Elizabeth Lee, the Senior Executive Director of the Sunway Education Group and an alumna of BBGS commented, “This signing is indeed a milestone and through it we will strive to champion the values of generosity, integrity and care that embodied Ms Cooke’s life as an outstanding educator.”
