
Singaporean musician, composer and alumnus of the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA), John Chua, has recently become a recipient for one of the most prestigious Talent Award in Europe. He was given the award for Best Film Score at the SoundTrack Cologne 9.0, the Cologne Congress for Music and Sound in Film and Media which was held in Cologne, Germany. He was the only Asian composer nominated for this category and he beat out 14 other entries from Europe to win this top award which acknowledges up and coming composers who are below thirty years of age. Winners of this coveted award will be given an opportunity to record with the West German Radio symphony orchestra in Cologne.
A gifted man
John Chua has been a student of NAFA for 15 years. His exceptional performance on the piano at the tender age of six earned him a place in the Gifted Young Pianists Course at NAFA’s School of Young Talents. He then earned a Diploma in Music Performance and became the Best Diploma Graduate in the Department of Music at NAFA in 2005. He then received a BA (Hons) in Piano Performing awarded by NAFA and the University of Wales, UK. Studying at NAFA has allowed his creative talent to blossom so exponentially that he is one of Asia’s most distinguished pianists.
