The University of York has won the International award at the WhatUni Student Choice Awards, as voted for by Hotcourses Abroad users.

Reviews from this site and our local language sites decided the University of York's victory at the glittering awards ceremony in London last night. These are the only university awards decided solely by student reviews and ratings, making them even more significant.

Durham University and Plymouth University came second and third respectively. The ratings cover topics important to international students, such as ‘Job Prospects’ and ‘Study Experience’. Students can write a review for an institution they've studied at any time.

The Student Choice Awards were hosted by veteran British television broadcaster Clive Anderson, while former education secretary Estelle Morris also spoke at the event attended by universities from around the country and other major sector organisations.

Nusrat Bashir, the University of York’s International Recruitment Manager, said: ‘We are very pleased to receive this award which is a credit to the entire University community at York. The award recognises the excellent work undertaken by our academic and student support staff, as well as the important role the whole student body plays in helping to enhance the experience of our international students.’

Hotcourses CEO Mike Elms said: 'The TripAdvisor-style reviews offer a real insight into what studying at university is really like. I’d like to offer my congratulations to all universities that won or were short-listed for an award category. These awards are based on the experiences of your students and that is something for which you should be rightly proud.'
