If you’re an international student, leaving your home country to study in the UK is a big decision. You're suddenly separated from friends, family and everything you’ve ever known. As scary as this may seem, it’s also exciting to know that you’ll have brand new experiences and meet new friends. Who better to give you advice than international students themselves?
I spoke to five students from all over the world, currently studying at the most culturally diverse UK university, the University of Westminster. Each of them was thrilled that they made the decision to move and value the number of opportunities available to them in the UK.
Hear from Omar from Portugal, Delmar from Australia, Alina from Romania, Tooba from Pakistan and Aylin from Turkey...
“I’ve been very lucky and very fortunate to find friends here that don’t make me as homesick as I would be without them.” – Tooba, Pakistan.
“It’s hard, but it’s not nearly as hard as you think it might be.” – Delmar, Australia.
“Freshers week helps a lot.” – Aylin, Turkey.
As an English student, I have felt enriched by the presence of our international students. You may think studying in the UK will either be like Hogwarts or you'll be in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by cows. But it's neither, particularly if you study in London or a major city. The UK is filled with opportunities and wonderful people.
