
Graduate schools across the US have increased the number of admissions offers they make to international graduate students by 9%, Inside Higher Education reported.
According to data recently released by the Council of Graduate Schools, the total of graduate applications has continued to increase since 2010/2011 period, with applicants from China representing a 20% of the total increase, following gains in the previous three years of 21, 15 and 17 percent.
Other countries that have shown significant increases are the Middle East region, Brazil and Canada. In the meantime, student numbers from India and South Korea have remained unchanged. The results are based on surveys of graduate schools.
Additionally, the survey shows an increment of 17% in the number of offers made to applicants of Business, Education and Social Science subjects for the new year 2013. Fields in Science, engineering and mathematics have remained stable with an average increase of 6% despite a recent extension on the list of subjects that student can study in order to be eligible for post-study work visas in the US.
