In 2024, Western University announced new scholarships for international students. These include the Welcome to Canada Admission Scholarship worth CAD 10,000, and the International President’s Entrance Scholarship worth 100,000 CAD.
The cutting-edge Ronald D. Schmeichel Building for Entrepreneurship and Innovation opened on-campus in fall 2024. This state-of-the-art building is open to any student in any program who is interested in inventing, making, growing, and sharing innovative ideas.
Western University has launched two new digital mental health supports for students: Togetherall and Wellness Navigator. These new applications are designed to help students manage their well-being remotely, while also directing them to access in-person resources when they need them.
Togetherall is a global peer-to-peer support service, monitored by trained therapists, which Western students can access for free. The platform creates a safe and inclusive environment for students to connect with others around the world, sharing similar experiences.
Wellness Navigator offers a confidential self-assessment for students to monitor their own mental health and well-being, and helps them navigate resources for support.

Western University recognizes that exceptional academic achievement requires strong institutional and financial support for its students, in order for them to realize their full potential. As a result, the university offers a range of financial awards and scholarships.
Three International President’s Entrance Scholarships valued at CAD 100,000 each are awarded to exceptional international students each year through the National Scholarship Program. These awards recognize general excellence in the university’s student body, and are awarded to students who demonstrate outstanding academic achievements and innovative approaches to their learning journey.

The university evaluates all students based on academic performance, expected potential and the competitive strength of their application. As a result, high school grades and other achievements that applicants demonstrate will be evaluated during the admissions process.

International students may need to provide evidence of their English language proficiency. At undergraduate level, the typical English language requirement is an overall IELTS Academic score of 6.5, with no lower than 6.0 in any band, or an alternative qualification.
English language pathway programs are available at the university for undergraduate students who do not meet the language requirements for their desired course.
Professors at Western University are highly trained experts in their field who integrate their research findings into their daily teaching. Home to over 4,000 dedicated faculty and staff, Western has a rich history of excellent instructors, with many award-winning faculty members, including 27 who have won the prestigious 3M National Teaching Fellowship.
At Western University, every faculty member has their own way of bringing the classroom to life. From simulations to case methods to collaborative learning, students learn from the very best educators, in new and exciting ways. All students at the university are supported to reach their goals. Western offers a number of academic supports, including a writing support centre, peer mentoring, and workshops to develop study skills. The retention rate for students moving from their first to second year is 92 percent – one of the best rates across Canada, and the graduation rate is above the Ontario university system average.

Western’s campus, which has won several honours for its natural beauty and quality, sits alongside the Thames River and is located in the north of the city. Offering both style and substance, it houses a comprehensive array of services and facilities to suit all needs.
The campus enables the university’s reputation as a world-leading research institution through its state-of-the-art classrooms, breakout learning spaces, laboratories, and computer facilities. In addition, it boasts the fourth-largest library collection in Canada, and provides digital access to millions of electronic publications and more than 700 bibliographic databases. Multiple on-campus library locations allow students to supplement their face-to-face teaching with quiet study in modern, private study spaces.
Well-being is a priority at Western and the university recently completed a CAD 20 million renovation to house all health and wellness services under one roof. The campus is also home to a number of arts and athletics facilities, including the McIntosh Gallery, the Paul Davenport Theatre, and a CAD 35 million student recreation facility. This recreation centre contains a fitness centre, swimming pools, courts and a wide array of classes.
Western offers a top-quality residential experience to its students and is consistently ranked among the top for best residence experience in Canadian large universities (Maclean’s University Rankings). The university offers twelve first-year residences, which are tailored to one of three residence styles. These are: traditional, suite-style and hybrid-style, allowing every student to select a living arrangement that suits their lifestyle and finances.
