Applied Fashion Design and Merchandising:

Enter the fashion industry with essential skills under your belt. You’ll have the skills, knowledge and insights to apply to garment design, product development, and technical production and management roles in the fashion industry. Students can choose from two streams: design and product development, or business and merchandising.

Core:

  • Assess impact of current fashion industry innovations and practices
  • Calculate cost estimates for fashion products
  • Develop and implement a sales or marketing strategy for fashion or textile items
  • Develop and present design concepts within specific guidelines
  • Identify fabric performance and handling requirements
  • Identify fibres, fabrics and textiles used in the TCF industry
  • Interact and network with fashion industry participants
  • Operate computing technology in a TCF workplace
  • Participate in environmentally sustainable work practices
  • Work safely

Creative Arts (Fashion):

This VET pathway is specifically designed for applicants who have completed either the VET Advanced Diploma of Applied Fashion Design and Technology, the VET Advanced Diploma of Fashion and Textiles Merchandising or the VET Advanced Diploma of Applied Fashion Design and Merchandising.

Advanced Diploma of Applied Fashion Design and Merchandising (MST60119)

This qualification provides skills in design and product development, as well as technical production skills and business. Students can choose from a design and product development or a fashion business stream. To complete the qualification you are required to complete all 11 core units and 34 elective units.

Entry requirements

For students from United States

Minimum academic entry is completion of Year 12 or equivalent. IELTS Academic 5.5 overall with a minimum of 5.0 in all bands; TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) – iBT: Score of 46, with reading: 4-7, listening: 4-6, speaking: 14-15, and writing: 14-17; Pearsons Test of English (PTE) Academic: Minimum 42 with 36 in all for communicative skills ((listening, reading, writing and speaking); Occupational English Test OET: Pass; Cambridge Certificate of Advanced English (CAE), Cambridge First Certificate of English (FCE): Overall score of 162 with a minimum of 154 in all bands; Intensive English Language Institute (IELI): English for Academic Purposes 2 (C grade); GCE O Levels English/1119 English: C6.

For international students

  • Academic IELTS score of 5.5 overall with a minimum of 5.0 in all bands or equivalent.
  • Satisfactory completion of Year 12 or overseas equivalent.
