What will I learn?

The Associate Degree of Exercise and Sport Science will give you the essential skills and qualifications to thrive in the sporting industry.

This course has a strong emphasis on practical skills, including developing the knowledge to work with individuals of all ages, fitness levels, skills and experience. The course draws from the knowledge and expertise of professionals in health and exercise science as well as coaches and fitness professionals.

This flexible course allows you to study how you wish - on-campus or online with part-time and full-time study options available.

On completion of the course you may also continue with further studies to the Bachelor of Exercise and Sports Science, gaining credit for units already completed.

Course structure

The course consists of 14 core and 2 specialist elective units. The course can be completed part-time or full-time. All units in this course are offered online and/or face to face and lecture and laboratory sessions are recorded to be accessed in a time of your convenience. This feature offers flexibility and is an ideal study options for full-time employees or individuals who wish to study while working in the industry.

A candidate must successfully complete units totalling 160 credit points (cp) as detailed below. All units are valued at 10 credit points unless indicated.

Entry requirements

For students from United States

Applicants must have completed minimum academic entry requirements for admissions to undergraduate degree is the completion of a qualification deemed equivalent to Australian Year 12 by the University's qualification assessment references. Applicants must have completed IB diploma with minimum 24 points from 6 subjects at one sitting. English Language Requirements: IELTS Academic Module- A minimum overall score of 6.0 with no band less than 6.0; Cambridge Advanced English (CAE): A minimum overall score of 169, with no skill below 169; Common European Framework Certificate of English Proficiency: A minimum overall grade of B2; Navitas Academic English: A minimum overall pass and 55% in Academic English 3; Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic module: A minimum overall score of 50 with no score lower than 50; TOEFL Internet-based Test (iBT): A minimum overall score of 60 and a minimum writing score of 21.

For international students

Successful completion of the Northern Territory Certificate of Education and Training (or equivalent).

Successful completion of a national qualification at Certificate III level or higher.

Successful completion of at least 0.5 year of full-time study (or equivalent) of a higher education degree/diploma.

  • IELTS Academic Module: Minimum overall score of 6.5 with no band less than 6.5
  • Cambridge Advanced English (CAE): Minimum overall score of 176 with no skill below 176
  • Common European Framework Certificate of English Proficiency: Test not accepted for this course.
  • Navitas Academic English: Minimum overall score of 65% in Academic English 3
  • Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic module: Minimum overall score of 58 with no score less than 58 in listening, speaking, reading and writing
  • TOEFL Internet-based Test (iBT): Minimum overall score of 80 with no score less than 22 in speaking, writing, reading and listening
