Social Media

Social Media Major

Digital and social media literacy is critical for students seeking a career in marketing and communications industries. Students will gain a sophisticated understanding of the role of digital and social media in everyday and corporate life in a local and global context. You will learn via a hands-on, practical approach underpinned with applied theoretical knowledge. The major provides students with the skills and experience in the development of innovative analytical solutions to real world communication challenges, in digital content analysis and creation and in creative entrepreneurship, all informed by industry best practice. Students will use persuasive and strategic communication strategies, and advanced design skills, to develop compelling and ethical narratives and campaigns across multiple platforms. Crucially, you will learn how to stay up to date, and innovate, in this ever-changing field. These skills are critical in diverse professional roles including public relations, journalism, advertising, web design, social media, and marketing.

Entry requirements

For students from United States

Applicants must have completed Year 12 or equivalent (in other Australian states). Other entry requirements for specific courses: Bachelor of Actuarial Science requires a minimum of 32 points. Bachelor of Laws requires a minimum of 30 points. Bachelor of Business Law; Bachelor of Jurisprudence; and Bachelor of Biomedical Science require a minimum of 28 points. Bachelor of Exercise and Sports Science; and Bachelor of Architectural Studies require a minimum of 25 points. All other programs require a minimum of 24 points. English Language Requirements: IELTS score 6.5 (Writing 6.5, Reading 6.0, Listening 6.0, Speaking 6.0); Test of English as a Foreign Language Internet-Based Test: 79; PTE: 58 with a Communicative Skills score in writing 58 or above.

For international students

Applicants with recent secondary education (within the past two years)

IELTS score Overall 6.5 with minimum 6.5 in Writing and 6.0 in Reading, Listening and Speaking; TOEFL iBT - 85 with a minimum of 24 in Writing; Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE) - 58 with a Communicative Skills score in writing 58 or above; Cambridge English Advanced (CAE) - 176 with minimum 176 in Writing and 169 in Reading, Listening and Speaking.
