CQUniversity's Bachelor of Education (Secondary) will prepare you as a well-rounded graduate that qualifies for professional registration as a teacher throughout Australia.

The course includes 125 days of planned teaching practice in secondary schools plus other opportunities for you to apply theoretical knowledge in practical ways. You will also develop the skills required to teach effectively in a wide range of contemporary educational settings.

During your studies, you will choose two teaching disciplines to focus on, such as accounting, biology (including year 7 - 10 science), business, chemistry (including year 7 to 10 science), English, geography, health and physical education (including year 7 - 10 HPE and year 11 - 12 physical education), history, home economics and hospitality, industrial technology and design and mathematics.

Program Structure

To graduate with a Bachelor of Education (Secondary) you are required to complete 30 units, including core educational studies and 12 units in two chosen discipline teaching areas (six units per discipline teaching area).

Career Opportunities

On completion of a Bachelor of Education (Secondary), you will be qualified to teach two specialist areas within secondary schools to Year 12. Like most professions, teaching has specific workforce demands and sometimes oversupply. Entry requirements

For students from United States

Successful completion of the equivalent of Australian Year 12. An approved university foundation studies or formal Australian Certificate IV can also be taken to meet this entry requirement. American High School Diploma - Completed High School Diploma and a SAT 1 composite score of 1050 (out of 1600) or above (Evidence based Reading & Writing; and Maths. English requirements: IELTS Academic - 6.0 with no individual band score of less than 5.5; TOEFL Internet-based - Overall score of 75 with no score less than 17; Pearson Test of English Academic - Overall score of 54 with no score less than 46; Cambridge English: C1 Advanced , Cambridge English: C2 Proficiency - Overall test score of 169 (with no individual band score of less than 162).

For international students

A secondary qualification (Year 11 and 12, or equivalent), or bachelor level qualification study for a period of at least 1 year fulltime with a minimum overall GPA 4.0

within Australia, Canada, New Zealand, United Kingdom, Ireland, or United States of America, which will meet the English proficiency.

If you do not satisfy any of the above you will need to undertake an English language proficiency test and achieve the following scores as below.

·An International English Language Testing System (IELTS Academic) overall band score of at least 7.5 overall with a minimum 7.0 for Reading and Writing and 8.0 for Speaking and Listening; or An Occupational English Test with Grades A or B only in each of the four components.
