Renewable Energy Systems

1. Describe and quantify the major factors affecting the potential contribution to the world's needs of the various sources of energy, such as available resource, status of technical development, and social, environmental and economic aspects.
2. Apply thermodynamic principles to the design and performance analysis of heat engines, combustion and chemical reactors, and heating and cooling systems in built environments.
3. Apply energy efficiency principles to engineered fluid systems.
4. Explain the basics of the physical operation and fabrication technology of solar cells and photovoltaic modules, and discriminate among various technologies.
5. Assess the performance parameters of the various components of a renewable energy system, and select the most appropriate for a given application.
6. Analyse, model and design solar thermal and solar photovoltaic energy systems, and capture the information in professional reports.
7. Apply systems engineering principles and methods to providing energy services.

Entry requirements

For students from United States

Applicants must have either completed recognized upper secondary studies to the required standard and recognised by ANU as comparable to Australian Year 12 or completed at least one year of tertiary study to the required standard. Applicants must have obtained a percentage between 59%, 74%, 77%, 82%, 83%, 87%, 95%, 97%. English Language Requirements: Academic IELTS: An overall score of 6.5 with at least 6 in each component of the test; a score of 570 with TWE score of 4.5 in TOEFL (paper based test); A score of 80, with a minimum of 20 in Reading and Writing and 18 in Speaking and Listening in TOEFL (internet based test); Cambridge CAE (Pre and Post): 58 overall with all sub skills at borderline or higher; 176 overall with at least 169 in all sub skills. PTE Academic Overall 64, minimum score of 55 in each section.

For international students

Applicants who complete a recognised secondary/senior secondary/post-secondary/tertiary sequence of study will be assessed based on an equivalent selection rank that is calculated upon application.
