Overview

La Trobe's Bachelor of Health Sciences introduces you to the physical, social and environmental aspects of health and science. Learn about the role of health professionals and factors that influence health both locally and around the world.

You'll learn:

This flexible course gives you a broad understanding of the health sciences field and lets you pursue up to two specialized areas including:

Human physiology and anatomy (Bundoora only)

Gain practical skills and knowledge in relation to the physiological and anatomical principles of the human body.

Public health

Learn the skills needed for public health research and develop strengths in health policy, law and ethics.

Health promotion

Acquire the practical skills and knowledge needed to promote people's health.

Health and sustainability (Bendigo only)

Explore the relationship between human health and the natural and built environment.

Rehabilitation counselling

Understand how the counselling process helps people achieve personal, career and independent living goals.

Sports counselling and athlete welfare

Apply cognitive behavioural techniques to improve athlete performance, concentration, motivation, fitness and health.

The qualification awarded on graduation is recognized in the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) as Level 7.

Entry requirements

For students from United States

Applicants require completion of Australian Year 12 (or international equivalent) with a certain grade. International Baccalaureate (IB): Minimum of 4 in English A1 or A2 (Higher and Standard Levels); or Minimum of 5 in English B (Higher Level), Over six subjects. English Language Requirements: IELTS (Academic): Overall score of 6.0 with no band less than 6.0; TOEFL Paper-based Test - Overall score of 550 with 5 or better in TWE (Test of Written English); TOEFL Internet based (iBT): Overall 64 with 13 in Reading, 12 in Listening, 18 in Speaking and 21 in Writing, Pearson Test of English (Academic) (PTE): Overall score of 50 with no communicative skill score less than 50, Cambridge Certificate of Advanced English (CAE): 169 with no less than 169 in any component, Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE): 169 with no less than 169 in any component.

For international students

Equivalent to an Australian Year 12 Senior Secondary Certificate.

Subject prerequisites

Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 30 in English (EAL) or at least 25 in English other than EAL; and a study score of at least 20 in one of Biology, Chemistry, any Mathematics, Physical Education or Physics.

English language requirements

IELTS (Academic) - Overall score of 6.5 with no band less than 6.0; TOEFL Paper based - Overall score of 575 with 5 or better in TWE (Test of Written English); TOEFL Internet based (iBT) - Overall 79 with 13 in Reading, 12 in Listening, 18 in Speaking and 21 in Writing; Pearson Test of English (Academic) (PTE) - Overall score of 58 with no communicative skill score less than 50; Cambridge Certificate of Advanced English (CAE) - 176 with no less than 169 in any component; Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE) - 176 with no less than 169 in any component.
