What will I learn?

The Bachelor of Music provides advanced training across a variety of musical disciplines. Students major in Composition, Interactive Composition, Jazz & Improvisation, Musicology & Ethnomusicology, Music Studies, or Performance.

The program develops technically advanced and experienced musicians through an immersive and practical curriculum with music core studies, music electives and complementary breadth subjects. The focus of the Performance major is to provide you with practical instruction and ensemble experiences on orchestral instruments, piano, guitar and classical voice. You will: Develop skills, knowledge and understanding of the practical, theoretical and conceptual aspects of music; Broaden their musical knowledge across a range of styles and repertoire; Develop advanced critical thinking and creative problem-solving through regular practical activities and theoretical studies; Participate in performance and academic activities; Have opportunities for solo and ensemble performances; Have access to a wide range of invaluable career experiences at a local or international context.

Careers in: Music Performance: While the logical path is to become a performing musician, the Music Performance major is your pathway to a range of employment options, including: Orchestral musician; Sessional musician for film, television, live shows, theatre or recording sessions; Soloist, ensemble member, accompanist, chamber musician; Opera singer; Chorus member; Concert agent; Concert manager; Studio or classroom music teacher; Music administrator; Audio technician; Music producer or sound engineer; Radio broadcaster or programmer.

English language requirements

TOEFL Internet-based test: total score of at least 79 and scores of 21 for writing, 18 for speaking, 13 for reading and 13 for listening; IELTS: total score of at least 6.5 in the Academic International English Language Testing System (IELTS), with no bands less than 6.0; Pearson Test of English Academic : overall score of at least 58 and no PTE communicative skills score below 50; Cambridge English, Advanced/Certificate in Advanced English (CAE): Cambridge English Score of at least 176 with no skill below 169; C2 Proficiency (previously called Cambridge English: Proficiency (CPE) examination): Cambridge English Score of at least 180 with no skill below 180.
