What will I learn?

Explore human behaviour while gaining an understanding of people's wellbeing with the Bachelor of Psychology from Charles Sturt University. Psychologists can be both health professionals and scientists, undertaking research and gaining insights into human behaviour and mental processes. Our four-year Bachelor of Psychology is accredited by the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council as a four-year sequence of study in psychology. Further study and training will be required to pursue your career as a psychologist.

This psychology course puts you in control. You can choose to study on campus at Bathurst or Port Macquarie. Alternatively, you can study online, with live and recorded lectures and flexible schedules so you can fit your learning around your other commitments. You may even be eligible to receive credit for prior study and graduate sooner.

Gain a solid foundation for your future career

We provide you with a comprehensive degree in psychology. You will acquire knowledge across a range of key areas of psychology practice, including cognition, developmental and social psychology, psychological testing, biopsychology, psychopathology, personality, learning theory and research methodology. After graduation, you'll be able to apply for provisional registration as a psychologist.

Follow your interests

In addition to the compulsory psychology subjects, you will also complete a minor study in another discipline to enhance your study experience. Minors are available in a range of related disciplines, including business, history and politics, justice studies and social welfare.

Take your study further

All students must satisfy academic criteria by the end of third year (or equivalent) to progress to the fourth year (or equivalent) of this course. Meritorious students will be eligible to transfer to the Bachelor of Psychology (Honours).

Career opportunities

A four-year psychology course opens up many psychology career pathways. This degree is also a stepping stone to the further study and training required to become a registered psychologist.

Provide counselling and wellbeing services through social welfare positions or, once you have completed your registration, go into private practice.

Entry requirements

For students from United States

Students are required to complete international academic qualification equivalent to Australian Year 12 (or equivalent). Academic IELTS (International English Language Testing System) overall score of at least 6.0; TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) internet based score of 60, Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic score of 50; TOEFL PBT: 550; Cambridge English Scale: CAE and CPE from 2015: 169.

For international students

Entry requirements vary from country to country. Students are required to complete international academic qualification equivalent to Australia.

Have obtained an Academic IELTS within the last 2 years with: a minimum overall score of 6, no individual score below 5.5.
