This dual degree combines the practical and theoretical requirements of a professional engineering qualification with the skills and confidence to effectively manage a wide range of business and technology environments.

UQ's respected Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) program is one of the most comprehensive in Australia for design, technology and innovation. Depending on your choice of specialisation, you might find future work anywhere from infrastructure and hospitals to energy and software.

The Bachelor of Information Technology will prepare you for a career working with computers and information, where you'll apply technical skills to solve problems, support innovation and improve communication between people.

Topics covered include accounting, economics, law, marketing, business and strategy. You'll also learn about software engineering, design, mathematics, information systems and more. You'll undertake projects, placements and internships with businesses that can often lead to employment opportunities.

User Experience Design

Courses studied in this major focus on design skills and creativity, programming and prototyping in different media.

This major is intended for students who want to take up careers in the multi-skilled and interdisciplinary field of human-centred design.

UX designers are increasingly sought after across all sectors of ICT, where the combination of people skills along with creativity and technical ability produces graduates who are prepared for the rapidly changing future of technology design.

Career paths can lead to roles as user interface developers, user experience designers, usability specialists, human factors analysts, user researchers and human interface developers.

Entry requirements

For international students

Queensland Year 12 (or equivalent) General English subject (Units 3 & 4, C); Mathematical Methods (Units 3 & 4, C); and one of Chemistry or Physics (Units 3 & 4, C).
Both Chemistry and Physics are recommended subjects. Specialist Mathematics (Units 3 & 4, C) is also a recommended subject. Students studying Specialist Mathematics and both Physics and Chemistry will have increased flexibility in their studies.
Students without Specialist Mathematics (or equivalent) may be required to undertake preparatory courses beyond the 88 units for the program and may not be able to complete the program in the minimum time frame without overloading or undertaking summer study.

English Proficiency

IELTS overall 6.5; reading 6; writing 6; speaking 6; listening 6. For other English Language Proficiency Tests and Scores approved for UQ

TOEFL IBT - Overall 87, listening 19, reading 19, writing 21 and speaking 19.

TOEFL PB - Overall 570, listening 54, reading 54, writing 59/5.

Pearsons - Overall Score of 64 and 60 in all sub bands.

BE - A minimum overall grade of 4 plus a minimum grade of C in all macro skills.

CES - Overall 176 and 169 in all sub bands.

OET is not accepted.
