What will I learn?

This qualification reflects the role of individuals who perform a range of tasks on a variety of diesel engines and associated systems in the automotive retail, service and repair industry.

International students will have the opportunity to complete the program on campus through practical training and assessment and on-the-job placements.

Opportunity exists for 18-month post-study work visa. This makes the student job-ready.

Existing workers currently employed in the industry may be eligible to complete the program through:

  • Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) or
  • QLD Government Funded Program (QLD residents only)

Course Overview

Students will develop their skills through practical and hands-on work in a simulated workplace environment. They will have the opportunity to learn how to diagnose faults, carry out mechanical repairs and dismantle and assemble engine blocks and sub-assemblies.

Students will learn about:

  • Workplace safety in an automotive workplace
  • Identifying automotive faults
  • Servicing operations
  • Diagnostic procedures
  • Using and maintaining tools
  • Testing and repairing basic electrical circuits
  • Dismantling and assembling engine blocks and sub-assemblies
  • Reconditioning engine cylinder heads
