What will I learn?

If you have completed a Registered Nursing qualification overseas and you are looking to practice as a Registered Nurse in Australia, the Graduate Certificate in Nursing (International Registered Nurse Entry) could be for you.

The Graduate Certificate in Nursing (International Registered Nurse Entry) enables you to develop advanced knowledge and skills in order to work as a Registered Nurse in Australia. This course will build on your existing cultural, theoretical, practical and research knowledge. This course will include 40 hours of on-campus, clinical learning activities. Internal students will complete these hours throughout the term while distance students will undertake a 5-day residential school at the end of the term. You will also complete 240 hours of work-integrated learning after week 12. On successful completion of the Graduate Certificate in Nursing (International Registered Nurse Entry), you will be eligible for registration as a Registered Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia. Referral by the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency is a prerequisite for enrolment into the course.

You are required to complete three compulsory units.

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES AND OUTCOMES

Upon completion of the Graduate Certificate in Nursing (International Registered Nurse Entry), you will be eligible to apply for Nursing registration with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA).

Once registration has been achieved, you can choose from a number of roles in the healthcare profession including positions in:

Entry requirements

For students from United States

Certificates: Successful completion of Australian Year 10 or equivalent. Diplomas: Successful completion of Australian Year 12 or equivalent; or completion of AQF Certificate IV or equivalent. IELTS academic overall 5.0 (with no band less than 5.5); TOEFL (internet-based) overall 65 (with no score less than 15); PTE Academic overall 46 (with no score less than 42); CAE and CPE overall 162 (with no band less than 154).

For international students

To be eligible to enroll in this course, you must first apply to the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency for registration in Australia (AHPRA). AHPRA will assess your application and determine your eligibility to work as a registered nurse. If you are not found to be immediately eligible for registration you may be referred to an Entry Program for Internationally Qualified Registered Nurses (EPIQ RN). The Graduate Certificate in Nursing (International Registered Nurse Entry) is an EPIQ RN.

Applicants must be referred by the AHPRA/NMBA to undertake an "NMBA-approved bridging program of study". A copy of this referral must be supplied with your application. NMBA/AHPRA referrals have an expiry date. CQUniversity will only accept applicants who are able to complete the requirements of the course prior to the expiry date. Students are responsible for ensuring they have sufficient time to complete the course (including work-integrated learning).

English requirements

IELTS overall 7.0 requirement (with no band less than 7.0) or equivalent; TOEFL (internet-based) - Overall 75 (with no score less than 17), PTE Academic - Overall 54 (with no score less than 46), CAE and CPE - Overall 169 (with no band less than 154).
