What will I learn?

Studying the Diploma of Music at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music will provide you with vocational training in music skills at a high level if you are aspiring to a professional career in music performance. It is also a great pathway to our internationally regarded Bachelor of Music degree.

The diploma is completed in two years of full-time study. In addition to weekly classes/lessons in your principal study area, you will complete three semesters of music skills, some analysis and music history studies as well as either performance, contemporary studies or composition options depending on your principal study area.

Eligible candidates may proceed to the Bachelor of Music (Performance), Bachelor of Music (Composition), Bachelor of Music (Music Education) or Bachelor of Music. These degrees provide for admission to a range of Sydney postgraduate and graduate entry coursework and research programs.

Entry requirements

For international students

HSC Music 1 or Music 2, or equivalent music skills.

Admission to this course is on the basis of a secondary school leaving qualification such as the NSW Higher School Certificate (including national and international equivalents), tertiary study or an approved preparation program.

TOEFL - IBT score: A minimum result of 85 overall including a minimum result of 17 in Reading, Listening and Speaking and 19 in Writing.

IELTS score: A minimum result of 6.5 overall and a minimum result of 6.0 in each band

TOEFL - PBT score: A minimum result of 565 overall including a minimum result of 4.5 in Writing
