What will I learn?

The Graduate Certificate in Event Management is designed for working professionals seeking formal qualifications as well as students who wish to develop knowledge and skills relevant to the event sector.

This postgraduate qualification is designed to expose students to contemporary event management theories, concepts and skills that are the basis of successful events across a range of economic sectors.

Students will learn how to critically interpret and evaluate the impacts, trends and issues associated with event management, as well as how to effectively communicate with a wide range of stakeholders.

Upon successful completion of the Graduate Certificate in Event Management, students may be eligible to articulate (enter) into the second semester of the ICMS Master of Event Management.

COURSE STRUCTURE

The course structure comprises 4 core subjects and one Research Skills Workshop across two trimesters.

COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES

Upon completion of this course, graduates will be able to:

Critically interpret and evaluate the impacts, trends and issues associated with event management.
Engage in independent research.
Engage and communicate clearly with a diverse range of stakeholders associated with event management.
Demonstrate a critical understanding of key theoretical concepts underpinning the event industry.

Entry requirements

For international students

Applicants must meet one (1) of the following criteria:

Successful completion of a bachelor degree (AQF7) from an Australian higher education institution or overseas equivalent.

Successful completion of an overseas higher education course of at least four (4) years duration (minimum AQF level 6 or equivalent), with a minimum credit grade average (GPA 3.0 on a 5-point scale).

Successful completion of a recognised Diploma or Advanced Diploma (or equivalent as recognised by the Australian Government's qualifications recognition tool) with at least four (4) years relevant full-time work experience.

Successful completion of an approved Postgraduate Qualifying Program from an Australian higher education institution or overseas equivalent.

At least five years appropriate full-time managerial or professional experience. (Applicants must demonstrate a recognisable level of responsibility as part of their work experience. Position accountability in a range of areas such as budgeting, staffing, project management, financial management or other relevant supervisory experience should be evident in the applicant's work history. While senior levels of volunteer experience may be considered, normally the majority of the work should be in a paid, full- time capacity.) Applicants seeking admission on the basis of work experience MUST support their application with evidence outlined in the Admissions Guidebook

Successful completion of at least two award or at least two non-award subjects (at AQF Level 8 or above) from an Australian higher education institution or overseas equivalent
