What will I learn?

Gain a comprehensive overview of the theoretical and practical aspects of urban design.

The Graduate Diploma in Urban Design provides a focused year of urban design history, theory, implementation strategy and studio based learning. The Graduate Diploma builds on the Graduate Certificate and offers students experience as individual designers and as participants in interdisciplinary groups assigned to working on the complex nature of urban design issues. The Graduate Diploma also offers students preliminary experience in conducting independent research. Students graduating with a Diploma will have a working knowledge of urban design. Their degree of experience would qualify them to participate in interdisciplinary professional teams involved in the production of urban design in a professional context.

Entry requirements

For students from United States

To be considered for admission to this course an applicant must have: (a) a Bachelor's degree, or an equivalent qualification, as recognised by UWA; and (b) the equivalent of a UWA weighted average mark of at least 50 percent. Minimum requirements: TOEFL (paper-based): 570 with a Test of Written English (TWE) of no less than 4.5; IBT TOEFL (Internet-based test score): 82 with 22 for writing, 20 for speaking, 20 for listening, and 18 for reading; IELTS (Academic): 6.5 (no band lower than 6.0)

For international students

(1) To be considered for admission to this course an applicant must have— (a) a Bachelor's degree, or an equivalent qualification, as recognised by UWA; and (b) the equivalent of a UWA weighted average mark of at least 50 per cent; and (c) successfully completed prior study in a field relevant to Urban Design; or (2) completed a Graduate Certificate in Urban Design at UWA.

Minimum requirements: TOEFL (paper-based): 570 with a Test of Written English (TWE) of no less than 4.5; IBT TOEFL (Internet-based test score): 82 with 22 for writing, 20 for speaking, 20 for listening, and 18 for reading; Minimum overall score of 6.5 with no band less than 6.0 (must include Academic Reading and Writing modules; Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English: C pass; Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English: B grade; Pearson Test of English (PTE) (Academic): Overall score of 64 with a minimum score of 64 in the Reading and Writing sections, 59 in the Speaking section and 54 in the Listening section
