What will I learn?

The Master of Information Technology (Information Systems Development) involves an in-depth study of the organizational, economic, regulatory and socio-technical issues that arise in the implementation of IT in business and government, and how to effectively manage those issues.

This degree is suitable for those without an IT background seeking to develop the fundamental skills required to work in the sector, or to undertake a management role in which an understanding of IT implementation is essential.

What you will study

You will study subjects in programming for social innovation and enterprise architecture design and management, alongside core subjects in programming, data management and security, information design and content management, systems development and business process management. You will also complete a minor research project or report.

This degree

This program will provide you with the skills to develop and manage computer information systems to achieve business goals. You will develop valuable transferable skills in solving business problems, such as project and change management, and an in-depth understanding of emerging technologies, IT strategy and governance, security and service provision and information management. This course will prepare you for a career as a systems analyst or systems designer.

Course Learning Outcomes

Course Learning Outcomes are statements of learning achievement that are expressed in terms of what the learner is expected to know, understand and be able to do upon completion of a course. Students graduating from this course will be able to demonstrate:

  • Research, synthesize and apply key information and apply expert judgment in information technology, systems design and project planning
  • Interpret information and communicate knowledge, ideas and procedures to both information technology professionals and stakeholders.
  • Work as an individual and as a member of a team in a manner consistent with ethical and professional standards.
  • Employ independent learning strategies to update professional knowledge in information technology of innovations techniques, industry trends and standards.

To qualify for award of the degree, the Master of Information Technology, a candidate must successfully complete at least 96 credit points.

A recognized Bachelors degree with an equivalent average mark of 50%; or a UOW Graduate Certificate. Other tertiary qualifications combined with extensive professional work experience will be considered. English language requirements: IELTS - 6.5 (Reading, Writing, Listening, Speaking – 6.0); TOEFL – 88 (Reading, Writing, Listening, Speaking – 18)

For international students

Recognized Bachelor degree with an equivalent average mark of 60% in any area. Applicants with other qualifications and substantial relevant professional experience may be considered.
