What will I learn?

The Master of Philosophy (MPhil) degree is undertaken as a supervised program of original research.

It is suited to those with some research training and experience, but who do not meet the eligibility criteria for direct entry into the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD).

Entry requirements

For students from United States

An applicant for a Masters Coursework degree program must either hold: A Bachelor degree or an overseas qualification from a recognized university or tertiary institution that is equivalent to a Bachelor degree, or a Graduate Diploma from a recognized tertiary institution or university. English language requirements: IELTS (Academic version): 6.5 overall score, minimum 6.0 in each subtest; TOEFL internet-based score: Total score 82, Writing 21, Speaking 18, Reading 13, Listening 13; Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE): 58 overall; No communication skills less than 50.

For international students

Western Sydney University must be satisfied that you are able to commence independent study at a doctoral level. The approved qualifications for entry into the Master of Philosophy are the following: Master of Research degree; Bachelor (Honours Class 1 or Class 2) degree; Qualifications from a university or other tertiary institution equivalent to the requirements as set out above.
