What will I learn?

The degree of Master of Philosophy is available in all Faculties of the University and is awarded without classification on the basis of examination of a major thesis. The requirements for the degree shall be completed by submission of a thesis, which demonstrates the ability of a candidate to conduct a research program, a command of the knowledge and skills pertinent to the area of investigation, and a critical appreciation and understanding of the relationship of the candidates work to the work of others within the subject area according to the literature.

Entry requirements

For students from United States

To be eligible for admission to the course, an applicant must have completed the following prerequisites: Equivalent of an Australian bachelor’s degree in any discipline (the equivalent of an Australian bachelor's degree in a related discipline will be eligible for up to four units credit) or A Graduate Certificate in a related discipline. Academic IELTS 6.5 (including individual scores of 6.0 for all tests);Pearson Test of English (PTE): 61 with a minimum of 50 in all four communicative skills; Test of English as a Foreign Language - Academic (TOEFL): Internet based total of 90: minimum 25 writing; ACU English Language Test: B (65-74%); Cambridge Advanced English (CAE): Overall CAE score: 176 (Minimum score of 169 in writing and speaking and 169 in listening and reading).

For international students

An applicant for admission to candidature for the degree of Master of Philosophy must have completed one of the following:

An appropriate undergraduate degree with Honours at a minimum level of Second Class Division A (Distinction average); or
Postgraduate research training (eg coursework completed to distinction level or higher or a master-by-coursework degree); or
Demonstrated research experience with evidence of capacity to undertake independent research work (eg an authored publication).

International English Language Testing System (IELTS): Overall score: 6.5; Individual score of: 6.0 in all tests

Pearson Test of English (PTE): 61 with a minimum of 50 in all four communicative skills

Test of English as a Foreign Language - Academic (TOEFL): Internet based total of 90: minimum 25 in writing
