What will I learn?

The Master of Public Health is the pinnacle level of study in the CQUniversity suite of postgraduate public health courses. It is an innovative course that will introduce you to the social-ecological model of health. This model which is strongly aligned with contemporary trends and challenges in public health provides the basis of innovative interventions for social change. Unlike other Public Health courses that traditionally focus on the medical model of health, the Master of Public Health at CQUniversity will also incorporate a social perspective of public health skills, knowledge and practice. Very practical in nature and designed with best practice and contemporary health trends in mind, this course will provide the professional development opportunity you need to develop your career in Public Health.

In this innovative course, the origins and evolution of public health and the underlying principles of community-based and community-led public health will be explored. The social-ecological model of health forms the basis of the Master of Public Health and you will study complex adaptive systems thinking and how this influences the way we think about public health. You will explore the origins and evolution of public health and the underlying principles and concepts of community-based and community-led public health. These include complex adaptive systems thinking, social and environmental determinants of health, social epidemiology, social justice, partnership development and participatory health research.

You will have the opportunity to apply these concepts in practical ways in both strengths-based and disease prevention approaches. This will ensure that you apply your learning to real-world situations, whether that be taking a strengths-based or disease prevention approach.

You will also have the flexibility of choosing from a list of electives or to undertake the project stream once you have completed the core structure. This project can be practice or research-based allowing you to develop specific skills and knowledge in your area of interest.

Online option is also available.
