The Master of Science (Research) (Applied Research) gives you the tools and opportunities you need to further your career in your chosen science research field. In this degree, highly motivated and highly qualified students undertake advanced study to produce a research-based dissertation which will help you to develop your research skills in a specialised area of knowledge and proceed further with your career.

The Applied Research major combines research and coursework to enhance your knowledge across a range of different science-based disciplines. Throughout the Master of Science (Research), you will find emphasis to be on the development of knowledge and skills to allow you to undertake independent research and professional practice in your chosen science specialty area. Your studies within this specialisation will include a research project, research courses and elective courses to specialise your science research focus.

Applicants must have Australian university three or four-year Bachelor degree in an approved discipline, or equivalent. English language requirements: IELTS (Academic only) score of 6.5 (or better)(no component lower than 6.0); TOEFL (paper based) score of 570 (with a minimum Test of Written English score TWE 5); TOEFL (electronic or computer based) score of 230 (with an essay rating of at least 5); TOEFL (internet based) score of 90 (or better) (with 20 minimum in all bands); Pearson (PTE Academic) score of 58 (or better) (with no communicative score less than 58); Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE)/ C1 Advanced or Proficiency (CPE)/C2 Proficiency with a score of 176 or above. No less than 169 in each skill.

For international students

completed a three-year degree at an Australian university or equivalent, with a GPA of 5.0/7.0 or above, or equivalent score, in a relevant discipline
or
equivalent qualification and work experience in the related field of study as determined by the program coordinator

acceptance will be subject to the availability of, and endorsement by, a USQ supervisor.
