What will I learn?

The Undergraduate Qualifying Program (UQP) prepares International students for undergraduate study in the arts, business, tourism and hospitality, accounting, information technology and engineering. It assists students to develop the skills necessary for success at the undergraduate level.

The course combines English language and academic skills development with academic, content-based studies. It is designed for international students whose academic qualifications and/or English proficiency levels are slightly below Southern Cross University's entry requirements for undergraduate degrees.

Students who successfully complete the Undergraduate Qualifying Program will meet the academic and English language requirements for the following undergraduate degrees: Diploma of Business, Bachelor of Business, Bachelor of Business Administration, Bachelor of Business in Tourism and Hospitality Management, Bachelor of Information Technology, Bachelor of Digital Business, Diploma of Science, Bachelor of Arts or the Bachelor of Digital Media and Communications.

Students who successfully complete the UQP will be granted two units of credit towards these courses.

Nursing and allied health stream

A specialised pathway into nursing and allied health (occupational therapy and podiatry only) degrees is available for students with an English language score comparable to Academic IELTS 6.5, with no band less than 6.0. Graduates of the UQP in this stream qualify for direct entry into the Bachelor of Nursing, Bachelor of Occupational Therapy and the Bachelor of Podiatry at Southern Cross University. No advanced standing is included in this pathway.

Major areas of study

English Language Proficiency (General English + English for Academic Purposes) and two units from a selection of undergraduate degrees.

Entry requirements

For students from United States

For undergraduate degrees, the required entry score uses the Australian Year 12 qualification. High School Diploma and Composite SAT 1 Score SAT 1160 SAT 1350 SAT 1370 SAT 1410 SAT 1460 SAT 1560 SAT 1740 SAT 1780. Applicants must have IELTS - 6.0 with no band less than 5.5; CPE - 52; CAE - 52; TOEFL PBT - 550 min 4.5 (TWE); TOEFL iBT- 60 with no less than 17 in writing & speaking, no less than 11 in reading & listening; PTE - 50 with no communicative score less than 46; ISPLR - 3+ or better in all 4 skills; CEFR - B2.

For international students

Be a minimum of 18 years old at the start of the program. Have completed High-School with an ATAR (or equivalent) which is recognized as having successfully completed an Australian Year 11.

Applicants for admission to candidature to the Undergraduate Qualifying Program must have an assessable entry qualification from a country where English is the main language and where the medium of instruction for that qualification was English; or, for all Undergraduate Qualifying streams, have completed an International English Language Test (or comparable test scores*) with:

a minimum overall score of 5.5 and a minimum score of 5.0 in each subtest (or comparable test scores*) for 15 weeks English for Academic Purposes ENG10002 concurrent with academic units

CAE - 47; TOEFL PBT - 500 min 4.0 (TWE); TOEFL iBT - 46 with no less than 16 in writing; PTE - 42 with no communicative score less than 36; ISPLR - 3 in all 4 skills.

*There may be different IELTS requirements depending on your chosen course.
