What will I learn?

Humber’s Mechanical Engineering Technology advanced diploma program provides you with hands on experience and the underlying foundational knowledge required to conceive, design, manufacture and operate engineering systems. Working on projects in state-of-the-art laboratories and design spaces, you will work on finding solutions for design and manufacturing challenges in engineering systems.

The curriculum covers the theory and the skills required for:

engineering design using leading industrial software’s (SolidWorks, AutoCAD)

manufacturing engineering systems

prototyping and proof of concept applications

automation systems

program computer numerical control (CNC) machine tools

computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) software-Mastercam

operation design and sustainability

project engineering and management

testing and maintenance of engineering systems

energy sustainability

Our program builds upon the solid technical foundation of the Mechanical Engineering diploma program. The manufacturing and basic design skills acquired in the first two years are enhanced in the third year by focusing on detailed design and advanced manufacturing technologies. The Mechanical Engineering Technology program offers a co-op option.

Begin a career in the design and manufacturing environment with a Mechanical Engineering Technology advanced diploma.

Our graduates are able to perform mechanical design and equipment/technology selection for mechanical systems; support fabrication and engineering staff, vendors, client’s processes, tools and inspection requirements; prepare preliminary and final cost estimates; and prepare and evaluate production processes, costing, tool design and inspection requirements.

Graduates find employment opportunities in a variety of industrial sectors including: manufacturing, automotive, energy, mining, service, food & packaging, transportation and maintenance. They work in:

drafting and design, equipment testing, mechanical equipment installation and consulting engineering offices

the metal cutting industries, programming, cost estimating, quality control and inspection, and in machinery sale.

To be eligible for admission, you must possess the following: Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent including these required courses: Grade 12 English (ENG4C or ENG4U or equivalent); Three Grade 11 or Grade 12 C, M or U courses in addition to those listed above or Mature student status or College or university transfer status. English language requirements: A minimum TOEFL score of 560 (paper based) or 84 (internet based with no single test score below 21) or IELTS with an overall minimum score of 6.5 (no single test score below 6.0) or CAEL (Canadian Academic English Language Assessment) with an overall band score of 60.
