What will I learn?

The Department of International Languages offers programs in Mandarin, Chinese, Japanese, Spanish and German. Studying languages helps you to develop skills such as cultural awareness, formal and informal speaking, knowledge of other countries, listening, mental agility, proof-reading, report-writing, editing, summarizing and verbal accuracy.

Sample Courses:

Beginner, intermediate, advanced Japanese language (oral and written); Introduction to Modern Japanese Literature.

Career Opportunities:

Graduates find jobs as development agency workers, foreign correspondents, immigrant support workers, missionaries and translator/interpreters.

Students must have completed High School (Secondary School). English Language Proficiency Requirements: TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) - Internet Based: Overall 83; Reading: 20; Listening: 20; Speaking: 20; Writing: 20; IELTS - Academic: Overall Band score of 6.5, with no band less than 6.0; CanTest (Canadian Test of English for Scholars and Trainees): Listening 4.5, Reading 4.5, Writing 4.0; Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic: Overall score of 59, No area with less than 59; CAEL (Canadian Academic English Language Assessment): 60; MELAB (Michigan English Language Assessment Battery): 85; CELT (Comprehensive English Language Test): 60. SAT I (minimum score of 1100) or ACT (minimum ACT score of 24); Minimum 65% GPA unless otherwise indicated below: Class rank; Core curriculum requirements: 4 years of English, 3 years of Math (Algebra I and above), 3 years of Laboratory Sciences, 3 years of Social Studies, A minimum of 16 credit hours.
