What will I learn?

If you would describe yourself as creative, resourceful, detail-oriented and a problem solver, then the Web Design and Development certificate program is for you. You will learn to critically analyze problems and apply best-practices to plan, design and build websites/applications. You will build sites and apps from ground up using the most up-to-date techniques and fundamental technologies. You will also learn to tackle technical challenges by developing strong troubleshooting and problem solving skills. The works you create along your journey will be curated into a captivating portfolio website at the end of the program.

You will be constantly challenged to learn more through the escalating curriculum, while working in our dedicated computer lab. Our updated Apple iMacs are loaded with the needed software such as the Adobe Creative Suite and a large selection of development tools and other useful software. You will be guided by seasoned faculty and industry professionals who are passionate about the web and related media in a practical, hands-on style of teaching. Opportunities to network with potential employers, alumni and other professionals will help you to build your own network of invaluable contacts to shape your future career.

Our graduates are prepared to apply for junior and intermediate-level positions within the web and interactive field. Depending on how you choose to specialize and market yourself a diverse range of positions, including: front-end development, backend development, web design, UI/UX design and many others are within reach. Our detailed exploration of core open-source technologies, such as HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript/AJAX, PHP, MySQL and Apache will give you a strong foundation that is attractive to most employers. We will also develop projects using various frameworks such as: jQuery, Bootstrap, Angular, Three JS, A-Frame and work with indispensable tools such as Git that will give you an edge over the competition. CSS and JavaScript Animation, Scalable Vector Graphics and real-time 3D imagery using WebGL will also help to refine your skillset, and future-proof your skills for a continually evolving web. Our alumni have used these skills to gain employment in interactive agencies, development studios and as in-house web professionals in a large variety of companies throughout the Greater Toronto Area and abroad.

To be eligible for admission, you must possess the following:

To be eligible for admission, you must possess the following:

Experience or education in a related background, i.e., digital media design, computer programming, graphic design would be an asset

Interest and enthusiasm for today’s newest technologies and strong computer literacy

Basic knowledge of hand-coded HTML is recommended

Prior digital graphic design or a familiarity with graphics editing software would be an asset

Meeting minimum eligibility requirements does not guarantee admission.

Minimum IELTS Scores: Overall 6.0 and No band below 5.5

Minimum TOEFL Scores: 550 for paper-based test OR 80 (20L, 20W, 20S, 20R) for internet-based test

Minimum PTE Score of 53 - 57

Minimum EAP Score: Successful completion of all EAP courses with a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 60% in Level 8

Minimum MELAB Score: 76
