Television, radio and web-based media are evolving at a rapid pace and this program provides you with the knowledge and practical skills to succeed in this constantly evolving sector. Students in this program produce and publish rich, diverse content for a wide variety of live and pre-recorded platforms while mastering the use of social media for professional broadcasting.

Program Details

Whether you’re interested in the creative, technical or business aspect of radio, television or web-based media, the two-year Broadcasting – Radio and Contemporary Media program offers the practical experience you need to excel in this fast-paced industry. Through community involvement and hands-on learning opportunities, you will explore traditional and emerging broadcasting methods, as well as marketing, entrepreneurial and management techniques.

As a graduate, you will be skilled in planning, promoting, creating and hosting programs for a variety of media using current software, broadcast technologies and social media. Your skills in these areas could lead to employment in a radio or television station,

THIS INCLUDES FOCUSING ON:

  • Broadcast equipment and operation
  • Business skills including management, marketing, sales, programming, promotion and market research
  • Hosting, reporting and interviewing
  • Production of current affairs, music, sports and talk shows for radio, television and the web
  • Radio station operations
  • Writing on-air reports and commercial scripts
  • Live streaming news, music and sporting events

Entry requirements

For international students

Students must have the equivalent of an:

  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma
  • Grade 12 English (C or U).

English language requirements:

  • Academic IELTS: 6.0, no band score less than 5.5
  • IBT TOEFL: 80, with minimum section scores of 20
  • PTE Academic: 53 minimum overall, no section below 49 L,W,S,R
  • CAEL: Overall scores of 60 with no section below 60
  • DET 105
